ronhardcastle's review
of this soundtrack CD:
by ronhardcastle on 10/9/2009 favorite track: 23 I suppose it helps that I'm a huge fan of this Showtime series and have the first 3 seasons on Blu-ray, so it would be a surprise if I DIDN'T love this soundtrack. But this is INTERESTING music rather than the sweeping symphonic variety you might find in some big budget film extravaganzas. Still, this CD has given me enormous pleasure ever since I bought it and I sometimes have to FORCE myself to listen to something else! The principal composer here is Daniel Licht, who wrote most of the original music (with the exception of the catchy theme for the opening credits, which is by Rolfe Kent). I find Licht's music thoroughly intoxicating, even hypnotic, but I could do without the Cuban songs as well as "Perfidia" and "Born Free" and wish they had just included them at the end as extras rather than interrupting the flow of this mesmerizing moodfest. Luckily I was able to create my own iPod playlist and can play just the music (as well as 3 tracks with brief voiceovers by star Michael C. Hall), along with repeats, at the end, of a few of my own favorite tracks. This is probably my favorite soundtrack purchase of the past year and I strongly recommend it. see all reviews, or add a review
