I absolutely loved this movie - but it was the soundtrack that won my heart. Hans Zimmer has done it again, creating a story that would hold up even without a cast. Romantic and mesmerizing. Two thumbs way up.

Hans Zimmer has certainly matured as a composer and his output during the last couple of years clearly shows that. More distinctly, it's particularly evident in his smaller-scale films like the German animated movies Polar Bear 2 and Lauras Stern and stuff like Spanglish or Matchstick Men.

The Holiday is a wonderful little score for piano and orchestra, enriched with some modern elements, like the drivingly rhythmic and beautiful rock finale ("Cry"), complete with drums set, guitars and bass. Other than that, the score is driven by a simple but memorable and tender piano theme, repeated and developed throughout the whole score which is generally moving along the same lines as Zimmer's music for Spanglish: smooth, gentle and beautiful. With the exception of some too-fluffy pieces ? to the point of actually being annoying - most of the score here is well-balanced with particularly well-written themes and animated, dense orchestrations; notable highlights are the fragile cello, guitar and violin solos plus the vividly animated woodwind lines. The pieces of the more-restrained and melancholic side of the score, like "Iris and Jasper," "Definitely Unexpected," "If I Wanted to Call You," "Kiss Goodbye" and "The Cowch" are some real little gems.

Overall, Zimmer's score is certainly no masterpiece but still a very enjoyable and romantic orchestral score with an infectious uplifting atmosphere that simply carries you away.

This movies is not another chick flick as many might expect. The Holiday has totally won my heart and my vote for one of the best Christmas holiday movies ever. I would like to hear the Maestro's tune again. The tune just gets into my head, for almost a whole week now. I'm very itchy to hear it again.

I love this movie, and the music by Zimmer is beautiful and charming. It serves the movie very well. Some of the ideas are reminiscent of the more romantic music in John Powell's Just Visiting. While I'm a bigger fan of Zimmer's action scores, I've enjoyed this one a lot. Recommended.

This is one of the best scores written by Hans Zimmer. A simple piano melody with an orchestra that don't mind. I think it's the intelligence of Hans that can make a beautiful harmony with a little orchestra. I love the romantic music of Hans.

Loved, loved, loved this movie! My favorite song is "Cry," it's so uplifting. Wish Sam Cooke's song, sung by Aretha, was on it though. It's the last song before "Cry."

I, too, found the movie enchanting (albeit implausible). But the music was so uplifting that it allowed you to participate in the dream! As one character in the movie put it, Hans Zimmer only used the "Good Notes." I can't wait for its arrival so that I can recreate the spirit of "lift" that it continues to engender in my soul.

I must say that when I look at the beauty of the movie I am inspired. The music won my heart and kept my attention. I watched it 4 times in theaters and fell in love with the composition. Beautiful, makes me want to rent another movie with Hans Zimmer's composition.
