You know those songs on soundtracks that just sort of make your hearts pump a little bit harder and you just feel like yelling out, "woo hoo!"? Okay, nevermind. Anyway, the most driven song on a score I've heard is
"Attack on Murron" on the Braveheart soundtrack.
It takes you through the whole journey of William Wallace as he comes back home until his wife Murron' death, pushing the limits of emotion higher and higher until the amazing climax, where the strings and drums plummet to a silent synth chorus, ominous and haunting in the background, all in 3 minutes. In my feeble opinion it is one of the greatest pieces Horner has composed.
    Any other ideas?

    NP: Attack on Murron

If I had to pick one track that gives me goosebumps it would be "Charging Fort Wagner" from Glory. It fit well in the movie by heighting the emotion from Matthew Broderick' death. The Boys Choir of Harlem is just awesome. Every time I listen to it ... it makes ME want to charge something!

First of all "Attack on Murron" is not a "song"!
    It's a "Cue".
Songs have people singing. At least that's what I always thhought.
Anyway,my favorite is "God's Finger" from Twister also "The Big Suck" which is another variation of God's Finger.

The last track from Rudy. Exciting and uplifting at the same time. Definitely "woo-hoo".
If you want a great emotional song then look no further than Non Nobis Domine from Doyle's Henry V.

Well, my definition of emotional is sort of different, like those dramatic tear-jerkers. My picks for those tear-jerkers are (in no particular order):

    1. Leaving Home from Superman by John Williams

    2. Suite from Forrest Gump by Alan Silvestri (well, the WHOLE score album was emotional)

    3. Father Kolbe's Preaching from The Truman Show by Burkhard Dallwitz

    4. "Sons of Scotland" from Braveheart by James Horner

    5. Ready for the Big Ride, Bubba from Face/Off by John Powell

    6. Impromptu For 12 Fingers from Gattaca by Michael Nyman

Well...I get that feeling (WOOHOO!!!) everytime I listen to "Arthurs Farewell" and "Camelot Lives" from Jerry Goldsmiths "First Knight"...but that is nothing compared to the feeling I get (wouldīnt exactly call it WOOHOO!!! but kind of) when I listen to Danny Elfmanīs "Edward Scissorhands". Especially "The Grand Finale". It is, plain and simple, the most beautyfull piece in all moviemusic historie.

    In no particular order:

    1. The Asteroid Field and The Imperial March from The Empire Strikes Back - John Williams
    2. The Desert Chase and The Raiders March from Raiders of the Lost Ark - John Williams
    3. The Battle and the End Credits from CutThroat Island - John Debney

I could listen to these tracks over and over and still get goose bumps. I think the ending to the End Credits of CutThroat Island is the best finish to a score I've ever heard!!!

How foolish of me! I compeltely forgot Elfmanīs score to Batman...some very pulspounding action-cues especially "Attack of the Batwing" and ofcourse "The Batmen Theme".
Probably the best action-cues ever composed come from this brilliant score.

"The Big Shoe" from the ANTZ soundtrack is great, great stuff.

Also, the 2nd half of the track, "You Have the Power" (from the Dark City soundtrack) is great. It's very powerful and ends beautifully.

    Excellent topic...hmm...

"Discovery of the Great Valley" from The Land Before Time by James Horner (although the movie version is better)

"Journey to the Island" from Jurassic Park by John Williams. The moment when the island first appears still sends chills down my spine.

"The Grand Finale" from Edward Scissorhands by Danny Elfman. This is one of the most emotional and moving single pieces of music I have ever heard.

Well, I'm sure there are more, but that's enough for now.

    James
NP - The Alchemist (Richard Band) ---That's another one! "Aaron's Last Fight" from The Alchemist!

In my opinion, these are some of the most emotionally
driving cues ever written. My personal favorites sometimes draw a tear or two, and are great to listen to when you're really depressed. But all of them are pure genius and indescribably beautiful...

    -"Main Title" RUDY
    -"Charging Fort Wagner"
    and "Closing Credits" GLORY
    -"Remembrances" SCHINDLER'S LIST
    -"So Was Red"
and "End Title" THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION
-"The Princess Pleads for Wallace's Life"
    and "End Title" BRAVEHEART
-"Hymn to the Fallen" SAVING PRIVATE RYAN
    -"You Are the Pan" HOOK
-Anything John Barry, sure to make you slit your wrists.

The gooseflesh I get most is from the following:

Main Title from Star Trek: The Motion Picture (still, to this day, almost none can compare)
Theme from Superman (The Main Title March)
    Burn It All from Backdraft
    Hammerhead from Broken Arrow
Main Title from Enemy of The State
Armageddon Suite from the Armageddon Score
    The Dream from Total Recall

Somebody mentioned "Leaving Home" from Superman, I wholeheartedly agree.

Return of The Jedi (as orginally listed on the first releases of the Jedi score) from, well, you know.

    The Victor from LA Confidential
Kaboom!!! from The Hunt for Red October
The Day We Fight Back from ID4

    and, most of all,
Epilogue and End Title from Star Trek II: the Wrath of Khan, it is everything a cue from a movie can be- and the only reason I can say Horner has alot more than just The Mask of Zorro to compose before he'll win me over completely again.

Without a doubt, the score cue that makes me cry most of the time is the last fifteen minutes of Adventure on Earth. Especially the part where the orchestra goes on a semi-religious bombarstic no stops grant finale and Et says:"I'll be right here". Where are my tissues?

To me, some of the most emotional ones (among many, many others) are:

    - Heart of a King from The Man in the Iron Mask.

    - Ready For The Big Ride, Bubba from Face/Off

    - Journey to the Line from The Thin Red Line.

    - Launch, Wing and a Prayer, and Burn around the Moon from Armageddon.

    - King of Pride Rock from the Lion King.

That's all I can think of from my collection.

Speaking of Tomorrow Never Dies... the cue "All In A Day's Work" on the new expanded release... THAT is an incredible cue... especially the ascending build up to the Surrender theme. When that theme kicks in toward the end: WOW. What a rush!

There's just something about that Surrender theme.... hmmmm...

Hmmmmm... also, several cues from "The Spitfire Grill" get to me. From the Mulan promo, it'd have to be the "Avalanche" cue... from First Knight, "Abduction of Guinevere," and probably the most important cue...

...it does it to me everytime, without fail: from Last of the Dogmen, track 12, "Leaving Forever." If that doesn't give EVERYONE goosebumps, nothing will.

Gotta add the main theme from Empire of the ?Sun, the leaving home from Superman, the last cue from Hoosiers, almost everything from Rudy, the theme from a score by Trevor Jones called The Mighty which I will review in the days ahead. Gosh, so many of these emotional scores...no wonder I'm in to this.

I think one of my picks would have to be some of the music from "The Right Stuff" by Bill Conti. "Glenn's Flight" and "Yeager's Triumph" rally stand out (probably because I'm a space geek and an Air Force Brat), and have been in love with space and aircraft since I was a little kid.

I sure wish there was a full score CD put out for that movie, instead of the doubling up with "North and South."

Gotta agree with Scott's "Leaving Home" from Superman and the main theme from Empire of the Sun. I think I already said something about "Leaving Home" before though....

One definite addition: Forrest Gump score. The entire score, like Rudy (but too bad the movie was not as perfect as the music), is tremendously emotional.

Other additional scores that are emotionally charged (I don't know about the tracks themselves, but as whole albums, they are perfect):

    Glory
    Braveheart

    Well I have a LOT:

almost all tracks from Ganbare Goemon
    and Sonic Adventure soundtrack,
Back to the Future, the music after George McFly punches Biff and the theme,
"Journey to the Island" from Jurassic Park,
"End Title" from Who Framed Roger Rabbit,
all tracks from Legend of Zelda Hyrule Smphony,
all arranged tracks from Super Metroid and Legend of Zelda: Sound and Drama,
    "Introduction(Titles)"from Edward Scissorhands,
"Main Title" and "Enter Basil" from Great Mouse Detective,
almost all tracks from Nightmare Before Christmas,
    some Star Wars cues,
and most tracks from Pee Wee's Big Adventure

I'm sure there's more that give me that emotional or exihilierated feeling, but that's the most important ones.

    Great post ^_^

I hate to be this kind of guy, but a little bit of trivia: The Boys Choir Of Harlem IS NOT on the Glory CD! Weird, eh? They're in the film, but they couldn't get them for the album recording, so they used a different choir. This is from FSM, incidentally. I'm not just making weird things up. Also, Father Kolbe's Preaching is by Kilar, not by Dallwitz, although the mesh of "Reunion" by Dallwitz and "Truman Sleeps" by Glass is incredibly moving. And I hate Philip Glass!

The Prologue To JFK (especially the waning moments of the cue) almost drive me to tears. Ditto anything from The Shawshank Redemption (OK, not ANYthing, but damn near all of it makes me whimper like a child). I can't leave this thread until I mention a Goldsmith score. Hmmm.....I don't want to say Rudy because everybody else has already taken it.........oh! "Reunion" from Papillon, right at the part where the piano starts to lead into the theme. Dear Lord is that emotionally ripe. I could go on for days, I've realized. Barton Fink is emotionally driving. Ooooh! I've thought of another! Track 16 from Dances With Wolves. It's great music for swallowing your pride and walking over to talk to the girl you're in love with for the first time. That was an odd sentence. Anyway, that's a great cue. "Remembering Chet" from Playing By Heart is another good one. I'm getting all misty. Damnit! One more Goldsmith one for the road----Studs Lonigan. Sniffle.

    Shaun

    NP---STILL American Beauty!
