Audacity, how is that Miklos Rosza at M-G-M collection? I think I might just get it.

As for this thread, I think it is cool as well, that is why I decided to post it. I was going to wait and see if someone else started it but thought what the heck.

Finally got around to Alfred Newman's
The Greatest Story Ever Told, the magnificent 3cd set.

    Also his Counterfeit Traitor.
And the Herrmann collaboration, The Egyptian.

Barry: The Deep. Jeez, what this man can do with just a pair of flutes and a complement of strings. Amazing.

This month I bought The Mummy and Braveheart.
These may not count because they were only in my collection for about a week, but I also got Lost in Space (The complete Intrada release), U-Turn (really weird stuff!) and The Thin Red Line out from the Library.

For January 2000, I got 2 Costner scores:
    1. Dances with Wolves (1/2/2000)
    2. Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1/16/2000)

I've been searching for Robin Hood for a months in major music stores and ironically it was all the while available in a local supermarket which I don't even bother to go in there to look for scores. Found it by accident though. I guess it was there for about 8 years (judging by the wrapping!)

    Next in the pipeline:
    1. Anna and the King
    2. Dave
    3. The Mummy
    4. The 13th Warrior (if it is here already!)
    5. Backdraft

    Sean, thanks for posting this!

Snow Falling On Cedars - James Hewton Howard
Miklos Rozsa @ MGM - yes, you really should run out and get this. Especially if you loved his Ben-Hur score.
    P.T. Barnum - Hummie Mann
Raise the Titanic - John Barry
    Bond: Back in Action

    Non-Film Music
Mahler: Symphony #2, "Resurrection". Man, this guy knew how to write! Film score fans should check it out! (along with the rest of his symphonies, especially #6). Also got the ultra-cheap Dover miniature score for $5 and am working on a piano transcription.

Also, I recently got the piano/vocal scores to 6 of Wagner's operas - another place film score fans should hit head-on.

You all have nice long lists of newly obtained CDs. Many of those titles are in my collection already, but some aren't.

Still, two recent acquisitions I don't recall seeing above are:

    Broken Arrow -- Hugo Friedhofer
    Rio Conchos -- Jerry Goldsmith

The former is a formidable entry into film music catalogs. We can never get enough Hugo Friedhofer to fully capture the essence of what this great composer brought to scoring films. Our small community has been told that virtually all Friedhofer magnetic tracks at Fox had disintegrated before restoration efforts began in the early 90s (when Fox started up its Classics series by releasing the original stereo tracks to "The Robe" and mixing stems for "How Green Was My Valley" into stereo). The revelation that much of this score is presented in stereo is awesome. I'd encourage anyone truly interested in great music from the past to acquire this CD. The BYU/SAE series is a phenomenal asset to prservation of film music and to making our collections more diversified than ever before. It's a stunning score.

I haven't yet listened to "Rio Conchos." I have the Intrada re-recording and have enjoyed it for several years. I am also a believer in obtaining the original tracks of a score whenever possible. I automatically receive every FSM release, but I still haven't finished enjoying "The Comancheros" and don't want to start on "Rio Conchos" until then. Mostly, I don't want to start confusing the cues in my mind...who knows, one day there may be a "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" show for soundtrack collectors but with four audio cues to choose from....heaven forbid I identify one Goldsmith cue from one score as belonging to another!!! : )

    Ron,

Interesting that you mentioned "Who Wants to be a Millionaire". I was watching that show last night (for it has become my girlfriend's favorite) and one of the qualifying questions was:

    "Put these four John Williams Scores in the order in which the won a Grammy Award, starting with the earliest;
Star Wars, E.T., Superman and Jaws.

No doubt everyone on this board would have been able to answer this in under three seconds which I believe was the lowest time. The first person here to answer it will get a prize from me.

Just last weekend I finally picked up "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves." I was actually searching for something else. The store didn't have it, and I didn't want to leave empty-handed, so I just grabbed "Thieves," and boy I'm glad I did. I liked the film but didn't remember too much about the score. But now I'm crazy about it and can't stop playing it.

    Sabbey,
You must have a lot of money to be buying that many soundtracks.

    Since Christmas, I have gotten:

    End of Days-John Debney
    Bicentennial Man-James Horner
Angela's Ashes-John Williams(though I will probably being selling this back since I ordered the U.K. release with no dialogue)
    Presumed Innocent-John Williams

cds that I have just ordered and are on their way:

    The Eiger Sanction-John Williams
    The Reivers-John Williams
    The River-John Williams
    Jane Eyre-John Williams
    Angela's Ashes-John Williams(UK release)
    Balto-James Horner
    The Pagemaster-James Horner

Now I really don't have the money for all of these but that is what credit cards are for.

The Flash, was the TV series from 1990 or so that was about the DC Comics character. It also had some themes from Danny Elfman.

As for where to get an copy, I have no idea. I received it on an CDR from another film music collector last month. I'd suggest you post an request for it on either RMM or Filmus-L which is where I originally did.

I would do an copy for you myself, though
unfortunately, I do not have the means to do so.

I've had an incredible "purchase drought" since mid december (not a single CD since then, in fact(!) due to various reasons).

But yesterday, I surprisingly (surprising that I found it, that is) picked up a CD of STAN KENTON CONDUCTS THE LA NEOPHONIC ORCHESTRA in a local store. mainly because of Williams' 9-minute piece "Prelude and Fugue". This is prime big band jazz meets contemporary classical music. Not everybody's cup of tea, but I found it intriguing.

I thought the question pertained to recent purchases, since I purchase two or three new soundtracks a week I just put in Medal of Honor. Tracks since Christmas? Oh my, I don't know, would have to look.

Haven't bought any soundtracks lately due to a large problem with my car and the completion (still in progress) of my computer.

    Go Sabbey go!

You want to do some recording for me? I'd love to compete with all your collecting.

    OK--the latest (humble) additions include:

    Bulworth
Il Grande Silenzio/Un Belissimo Novembre (I had no idea this was in print all these years)
    Sleepy Hollow
    Lambert: Merchant Seamen/Piano Ct

    C'est tout

Hey Greek! I love Sarde too--what else have you got? Where did you find Le Choc?

Well, yesterday I got Casper, which is suprisingly good for Horner (I actually love most of his music, I am just saying that it is rather original for him). Are there any more scores (by him or others) like Casper?

Gee thanks! Do you mean recordings on CDR? Unfortunately I do not have an CD Burner.

As for the CDs, well I know how to look for bargains. Most if not all of my CDs are purchased from CDNOW, Barnes and Noble and Amazon. Doing that I save enough money to buy many more discs than I usually would be able to get.

The fact that I only buy soundtracks and nothing else also helps.

What can I say I am addicted to film music!
