I was just about to ask you guys wheter or not I should get this score. I´ve been discovering the great talents of Kilar over the past months, and I think he may be one of my "Top Five Favorite Composers" He has a very distinctive and interesting style which I like extremely much.

Give me some more details on "The Ninth Gate", thanks!

Joe ain't kidding, This is my favorite score from last year.

I would also recommend an album of his classical work called simply WOJCIECH KILAR, The track Exodus for orchestra and mixed choir is superb ,and also used in some trailers for Schindlers List, I think it was H.Rocco who said he prefered this to what was written in the film ( correct me if I'm wrong H? ), It's a very powerful and moving piece that clocks in at over 22 minutes and is comparable to RAVEL's Bolero in it's build up and overall feel!
I should add that all four pieces on this c.d. ( 70 + mins ) are very listenable.

The best recommendation I can give is that it's been in my player many times since I bought it 4 years ago, and two freinds of mine have recorded it off of me as a must have for themselves!!

    It's on OLYMPIA OCD 308

NP : John Huston's MOBY DICK is on the T.V.!

"9th Gate" is a very good score. A bit redundant, like "Dracula", but still very good. It wasn't easy to find it here in Vienna, though, I only saw it at one store.

Scott: "Dracula" worked perfectly in the movie, but I still think that the CD release is rather disappointing. It is TOO redundant (and the final chase, the most original piece - compared to the rest of the score -, is NOT on the CD).

Yes, I loved the score to Dracula in the film, but on the cd I thought it would NEVER end...Ninth Gate is MUCH more restrained than Dracula is, with the same orchestrations though adn some wonderful choral work. A DEFINITE must have!!

NP - Desperate Measures (Trevor Jones) ***/*****

I got mine at Tower yesterday!!!!

Timmer - I can't seem to find this classical albuma anywhere. I've found one disc centering on Father Kolbe's Preaching (as heard in The Truman Show), but everything else is his film work. Do you know a web-site that has it in?

Kilar's "The Ninth Gate" was one of the best film score CD releases of last year.
