    I finally bought a new turntable, which has facilitated my ebay activity. New LPs that I've now had a chance to experience:

    Heidi (dialogue version--actually, not too bad)--Williams
    Cinderella Liberty--Williams
    Accidental Tourist--Williams
    Spacecamp--Williams
    Witches of Eastwick--Williams

    Other LPs on order:

    Night Digger--Herrmann
    Music for Radio & TV--Herrmann
    Not With My Wife You Don't--Williams
    Checkmate--Williams

    New Cds:

    Mission to Mars--Morricone (for once, a Morricone that lives up to its hype)
    Constant Nymph--Korngold
    Keys of the Kingdom--A. Newman
    First Knight--Goldsmith

    And finally, Cds on order:

    Ewoks--Bernstein/Williams
    Heidi (no dialogue)--Williams
    Angela's Ashes (no dialogue)--Williams
    Fahrenheit 451 (boot?)--Herrmann
    Tiomkin's Western Film World
    Adventures of Superman (TV)

    Should not be a cruel month. Even the IRS is friendly to me this year, which means I'll pass along the good cheer to the soundtrack retail outlets . . .

    Wow. April is 3 days old, and you all already got tons of new scores!

    Thor, is your "Great Train Robbery" new or used? If it's new, any hints on where I could find it? Thanks!

    All I've got for the past couple weeks is the FSM TAKE A HARD RIDE. I'm expecting a big package shortly, but until it arrives, will not divulge its contents. (I'm superstitious that way. If something good is about to happen, then I tend to wreck it by mentioning it. Wait, I just did. Oh God, I can be so stupid.)

    NP: TWISTER suite on Varese's "Towering Inferno and Other Disater Classics." I didn't much like this movie, and thought I didn't like the score, but the suite is starting to grow on me. Big, merry Copland/Williams type stuff. Perhaps they just picked the best moments for this rerecording -- I definitely thought the score in the film was overdone, my favorite part was the end title "Respect the Wind" which isn't Mancina's. (The only other Mancina title I own is CON AIR, which I like a lot. Partly Rabin, I know, but still fun.)

    Actually, Marian, I'm cheating a bit. Several of the aforementioned scores were received in march, but I put them here instead of the feb/mar thread because it's now april!

    THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY is a CD-R of the original LP.

    just got THE NINTH GATE !!!!!!!!!!!

    in the immortal words of Homer J Simpson: "woo-hoo!"

    damn this thing is a cool score. I love tracks 13 and on. menacing choral stuff, and Sumi Jo just adds to it, making sure not to make herself heard, but to blend with the orchestra. Love the rhythm of the choir and orchestra.

    NP -- Ninth Gate, duh

    Whoa! Some of you have really long lists. I usually don't reply to these threads because I usually don't have the adquisitive power to buy that many CD's at a time, but last March was the exception, I broke my record buying three new CD's:

    *SUPERMAN expanded
    *SCHINDLER'S LIST: THE CLASSIC SCORES OF JOHN WILLIAMS(Paul Bateman/City of Prague Phil)
    *OUT OF THIS WORLD(John Williams/The Boston Pops)

    On the Paul Bateman CD there's a concert vesion for one of the best love themes ever: "Han Solo and the Princess" which I've never heard and haven't been able to find it anywhere, John Williams hasn't even recorded it, I think. The bad thing about it is my CD player won't play any CDs at all.

    Don't know about "Tess", but I've got "Pirates" on CD. It's on Milan, CD CH233 (made in Switzerland), but maybe there's a different release in the US. The titles are in French, but it looks like it's the same as the LP release - it says "Face A" and "Face B" on the back.

    Very nice score, by the way, with one of the best mysterious themes ever!

Never heard of another CD by them, and have never seen, heard, or read about this anywhere before or after I bought it. Also includes Lalo Schifrin's original Mission: Impossible theme, the one that was rejected in favor for the now-classic one, which was originally composed for an episode's car chase. The original's not bad. Not as good as the one we're all familiar with now, but certainly enjoyable. Actually, portions of it show up from time to time in Bullitt)

    Just in:

    * WILD, WILD WEST (Bernstein):

    A highly enjoyable score with all the Bernsteins involved (Elmer, Peter, Emilie).

    * INSTINCT (Elfman):

    Complex as always with Danny's recent scores, but this one has some interesting percussive effects (Elfman spent several years in Africa, so he should know).

    * THE BLUE LAGOON (Poledouris):

    Laidback and exotic. An example of Poledouris' extreme versatility.

    * CITIZEN KANE (Herrmann, McNeely version):

    I've been quite harsh to Bennie's music over the years, but this one caught my liking. Maybe I've reached a turning-point in my relationship to this composer?

    * THE HAUNTING (Goldsmith):

    Not exactly revolutionizing film music, but has certain highlights (such as the carousel piece).

    * SUPERMAN (Williams, 2CD, Rhino):

    A flawless and superb release of the classic score. Minor quibbles, though: lack of track timings, booklet which does not fit in jewel case and too many versions of "Can you read my mind".

    Had a huge Christopher Young jones going after o.d.'ing on several hefty interviews in the past month; so:

    Bright Angel
    The Man Who Knew Too Little
    Invaders From Mars (cd-r)
    Species (cd-r)
    Cinema Septet (cd-r)
    Christopher Young, Vol. 1 (cd-r)
    Max & Helen (cd-r)

    The Grifters

    last month:
    The Road Warrior
    The Sea Hawk
    Xena, Vol. 3 - The Bitter Suite
    How The Grinch Stole Christmas/Horton Hears A Who
    Fight Club

    Have been trying to cut down - but it looks like it's time to subscribe to FSM's Club - I have to spend about $200 to catch up with CD's I'm wanting from them...
