Hello, I have recently heard a sample of the theme from "The Hunt for Red October", and i enjoyed. I wanted to know if anyone else has this track and what they think of it...

It's a short CD, half an hour (from MCA, not Varese), but worth it if you like the movie, and Poledouris, enough.

The album cue "Two Wives" wasn't used in the film; instead, director John McTiernan stuck to his temp track, which was, ironically, a synth piece from Poledouris' own NO MAN'S LAND.

Michael Jackson, who nominally worked with Poledouris for the album FREE WILLY (in the sense that Jackson's label released it), also used the HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER theme in one of his video-promos, the one in which everyone appears to worship his statue as a virtual god (wait, all his videos are like that)

NP: THE BROTHERS KARAMAZOV (video, not album; flamboyant score is by Bronislau Kaper)

The album is well worth having, although about half of it consists of synthesized percussion cues that don't work too well on the CD. The rest is astounding, though, especially the first two tracks. There's a bit more music in the film, some of which I think would deserve being released, but I can't remember it very well at the moment.

Your H'ness, I thought there was NO underscore in the film at the Two Wives sequence? At least, I never noticed any, knowing that the track on the CD was NOT included in the film.

Maybe I've mistaken it for something else, not having seen the movie in MANY years, but I think it was when Sean Connery and Sam Neill are discussing their respective wives, and we see intercutting of the submarines just barely passing each other ... that's how I remember it. Confirmations, anyone?

Hm, I was referring to the dialog scenes of that sequence only, I'm pretty sure there's no music in them. Don't know about the submarine shots, maybe those DO have music.

BTW, at least once when I saw the movie, the music sounded terrible. I don't know if that was a problem with that particular broadcast or not, but you could hardly hear any distinct melody because it had so bad quality.

There is a great unreleased cue from "Red October," the scene in which Tupolov (Stellan Scotchguard) gets his orders. "These orders are seven bloody hours old! Sitting at the bottom like an idle schoolboy!"

I've always liked the controlled fear of the "Crazy Ivan/War at Sea" sequence. Is there an album (boot) for "No Man's Land?"

By the way, I know what the actor's real name is.
