Is this score worth buying? I haven't seen the movie, but the samples I heard at Amazon.com sound pretty good, especially "Vampire Hunters" (which was used in THE MUMMY trailer, by the way).

So should I look for DRACULA next time I'm out?

Sure. It's a great score. Very inovative. Dark and romantic. But I advice you to see the movie first.

Anyway, you should know that the album isn't quite good. The sound is muffled and poorly mixed. The sequencing of the album is awfully repetitive and it lacks a more powerfull conclusion, with the exclusion of the chase sequence. And to make things worst the song by Anie Lenox is dreadful...

But, even with all this negative points, it's still a very good score!

Thanks for the quick response, Andre. I've been wanting to rent the movie for some time, but just never did because of Keanu Reeves. (In the previews, he always looked out of place with the rest of the cast). But now that I'm interested in this score, I suppose I'll get to the video store sometime this week or next and check it out. Is it available on DVD? I'd prefer to see it widescreen.

Actually, the film is one of Reeves films that is actually quite good, coz he isn't in it for long! LOL.

That scene in the bedroom with the "exploding" walls still gives me shivers up my spine.

That version of DRACULA is frankly incoherent, but fascinating and beautiful to look at. Indeed, we see so little of the accursed Keanu, he doesn't manage to wreck too much of it. Gary Oldman is tremendous, well worth the price of a simple rental.

Overall, this is perhaps the most enjoyable version of Bram Stoker's novel ever filmed... completely over the top, with the strange eerie feel of a dream.
Kilar's score is great, though I agree with Andre that the soundtrack album (while still worth having) is a less than ideal presentation of the score. Especially the fact that the chase cue is not on the album is annoying (I'm less troubled by the sound quality of the album, which is not all that bad.) I like Kilar's end title (which was not used in the movie), whereas the Annie Lennox song actually used does not fit in with either the mood of the rest of the score or the movie at all. I don't think the song is THAT bad on its own, it just feels out of place here. Anyway, there have been two versions of the soundtrack released, which are identical EXCEPT for the Annie Lennox song, which is missing on one.

I go along with ALL the above!

The score is worth buying...I would give it 5/5 If it was better sound, and less repetitive, But the good tracks are absolute gems!

Keanu's English accent in the film?....frankly it's awful!

Agreed with the above. I don't even know if I ever played the whole Annie Lennox track.

Although I have never seen the film, I love the score. I highly recommend it.

I want to stick up for the Annie Lennox track. I think it's a beautiful song.

I like the CD. But I also miss the Chase music. Probably the best cue in the whole movie! Anyway, we should feel lucky that the score is still available, considering how poorly the film did in the box office. Very underated movie. Plus Winona Ryder's in it...hubba hubba. Great cast ensamble as well, not only do we get her, but Gary Oldman, Keanu Reeves (ugh), the great Sir Anthony Hopkins, Cary Elwes...need I say more? Score wise...well I would have rather had the chase sequence then an reprisal of the hunters cue...I rather hated that music. Over all its a great CD. Annie Lennox did a wonderful performance and is one of the rare occasions where I actualy enjoyed a song in a score CD. Her voice is very pure and distinctive, and she still managed to keep her 80's New Wave edge and give it a twist to her sound. I always thought she would sing a great Bond theme.

The CD's worth the buy, but not the best score I've ever heard.

NP - The Craft (G. Revelle) ***/***** (not bad considering the movie was mostly songs)

Hey, the movie didn't do all that bad at the box office. Remember that it was not all that expensive to begin with.
I purposely bought the CD with the Annie Lennox song. (Why shouldn't one? It cost exactly the same as the one without it, and the extra song is the only difference between the two issues.) I agree, it's not a bad song per se. It just doesn't fit in with the rest of the score, and I usually don't listen to them on the same occasion.
