Actually I'm looking for King of Kings, but I'm looking for a newly recorded version with good quality. And I'd also like Ben Hur.
I noticed Varese has a CD called "Rosza" that has suites from El Cid, Ben Hur and King of Kings, does anyone have this particular CD? Or know where to get a good sounding King of Kings?

There are snippets of King of Kings on an album from Angel/ EMI, I think that's the label, with bits and pieces from Ben-Hur, Spellbound, Quo Vadis, and some others.
    It's okay.

to my knowledge, it has not been re-recorded. If so, I'd be all over it like white on rice (or brown on rice, depending on which you favor).

If you want more Rozsa, go for Ivanhoe
and Julius Caesar, both on Intrada.

Ivanhoe, I swear, has THE best battle music, overall, that I've heard.

    good stuff.

Now we re-recordings of Quo Vadis and King of Kings.

And, if you don't have it, get the Rozas at MGM compilation from Rhino. Essential.

Tim, I just received from CDNow THE EPIC FILM MUSIC
OF MIKLOS ROZSA. Not OST, but a nice compilation with
good sound. It has three cuts from King of Kings: Main theme with
choir, main theme orchestral version, and The Lord’s Prayer which
is lovely. Also has lots of other good stuff from El Cid, Ben Hur,
All the Bothers Were Valiant, Quo Vadis, etc. You can hear clips
    from CDnow.

IMHO, excerpts from QUO VADIS and BEN HUR on the London label (an LP from the late 70's) are two of the very best.

Where can I get the 75 min release of Kin of Kings? I learned it's the label SMSP. Which is a branch off of Sony Music.

I'll join JJH's praise of "Rozsa at M-G-M," an overall terrific compilation.

You also can't beat Rhino's complete release of BEN-HUR.

Both of these releases are deservedly given lavish and detailed presentations. Great stuff.

I believe that the best Miklos Rozsa recordings are the ones he conducted like the two London Phase4 CDs of BEN-HUR and QUO VADIS.Especially QUO VADIS is magnificent and a real treasure for anyone finding this rare CD.As of KING OF KINGS i don't believe that there is any new recording except for the few ques that can be found in the several Rozsa's compilations.
I know there was a plan from Rhino to release a deluxe edition, similar to the one of BEN-HUR and GONE WITH THE WIND but unfortunatelly it was cancelled.

    Tim,

The Sony Music Special Products edition was a very limited issue. I picked mine up when it first came out and it wasn't cheap even then. It's seems to be pretty tough to find these days and usually fetches a high price. So far, it's the most complete version released of the score and was also taken from the original masters. Just be sure to avoid the less complete, worse sounding Soundtrack Library edition.

I can record the 75 min King of Kings for you, but I can't burn CDRs, just make cassettes.

Avoid the Varese King of Kings at all costs, it's a re-issue of a cheap 60s re-recording with some no-name conductor and a woefully inadequate choir.

For a recent re-record of King of Kings music besides the Kenneth Alwyn Epic Film Scores CD, you might try the St. Paul's Cathedral Choir Christmas Album with John Scott conducting the Royal Philharmonic. It has a 9 minute suite of the choral music from both Ben-Hur and King of Kings that is pretty good.

Might I suggest you pick up Golden Voyage of Sindbad, released on the Prometheus label (if you can find it). Whether this is the best Rosza recording ever is debatable (sound quality is a bit iffy), but the score is certainly worth it.
