The music is composed by Joel McNeely and fits the series perfectly. Music is a mix of techno beats and orchestrations and yes it is very well done! If a score is released to this series I see myself picking this one up. Anyone else get to see the show and experience the music?

It aired tonight... unfortunately I missed it due to the Presidential debates. Priorities!... not to mention the summary I get to write about them.

The main theme (as Justin pointed out to me) can be heard at the official website (www.fox.com/darkangel).

Nothing has been confirmed, and there's been no news as of yet, but it really wouldn't surprise me if Varese picked this one up after the first couple of seasons. Their relationship with Joel McNeely is very good (as far as I know), and they've been releasing his music consistently over the past few years.

Let's keep our fingers crossed. What I've heard (thus far) is great. The theme is dark and ominous... the vocals are cool, though I wasn't surprised by them (he did something similar (stylistically) in Sally Hemings: An American Scandal).

I caught the opening of the show to see if Brad Fiedel was handling the score (hey, it's Cameron--he likes his crap!), and was surprised to see McNeely's name! I think I already read that he was doing the score, but they don't call me "Gipper" for nothing.

Anyway, the whole reason I was posting is that I wanted to mention that the theme isn't by McNeely, but by Chuck D (of Public Enemy or "Burn, Hollywood, Burn" or "Napster-supporter" fame) and somebody else with a wacky name.

Jessica Alba is a terrible actress,

Okay, then the music on the website isn't the theme. 'Cause I'm positive that's McNeely's music. And if it's not, that's just crazy.

Well I watched the debates (OF COURSE) and taped DARK ANGEL. I was surpised to see McNeelys' name on this. I turned the tape off after 15 minutes as the show oozed cliches a EVERY turn.

Has the writer or director or Network Exec in charge of this production ever seen a GOOD film or TV series???? Mind u I ONLY SAW THE OPENING FIFTEEN MINUTES.

It opens similarly to E.T. with the main character being chase by a group of "government" types. Except a major difference in DARK ANGEL is that these "men" speak. Some really cheesy lines too. Headed by JOHN SAVAGE no less.
"If even one of them gets out..."

I wonder why the guys chasing ET didnt speak?? Oh yeah, it was because it set up tension, lent itself to mystery and WASNT NECESSARY!!!! As a matter of fact the opening fifteen minutes NEEDED NO DIALOGUE at all!!!
And then we're graced with lines of dialogue that give us hints that ALBA is better than human...

    MAX
    (under breath)

    I don't sleep.

The audience doesnt NEED that. We just saw her in zero degree water without batting an eye!!!

Why is it that a quasi-cerebral show like MILLENNIUM gets cancelled and THIS brainless fodder gets the greenlight? Hopefully this show will last as long as Fox's cure for insomnia THE VISITOR (or less).

    Nice try FOX

and thanks gain Mr. McNeely for proving (yet again) that you're one of, if not, the most underrated composers in the biz.

Totally agreed, Scott... She's purty. And she totally commands the screen. She has such an exotic look that you can't take your eyes off of her... And I thought she acted just fine, considering the part.

As a Cameron fan I was actually dissapointed with this. Of course the first scene with the snow just ozzed Cameron (hehe rememebr True Lies)

At any rate, the series looks kind of well...um...lame. What was interesting to me was the back story of Max (and the fact that it took place in Seattle). That was very cool indeed and I bet Cameron has a huge back story with this (he loves back story)

So, it looks like I'll still be tuning into my old series. "The X-Files," "Star Trek: Voyager" and last but not least "Dawson's Creek." (laugh and you will die)

As for a CD release, I am sure Varese or Sonic Images will pick it up, thats assuming it can stay on for 2 or 3 seasons.

    But, Jessica is really hot

PS: One fun thing to point out (for me at least), Stephen Mark (show's editor) was the editor of "The X-Files: Fight The Future" as well as the show, I thought that was cool. Also, I heard today (as I was getting up this morning) that Cameron has been given the green light to go into space and board MIR. COOOLLLL maybe his next movie will be a space one, I bet that would be fun to film/shoot in space (yeah...right)

Chrono/Kyp...why Voyager? It's the McDonalds of science-fiction. The premier was godawful. Why not try some sf with substance...Babylon 5...our last, best hope for good television sf. Now playing in widescreen on the Sci-Fi channel, Mon-Fri, 7 pm EST. Right now, they are playing early 1st season. If you start watching now, you'll get most of the set-up for the rest of this 5 year series so you can follow the story and characters. Keep your eyes peeled for the episode titled "Signs and Portents." It sets the tone for the entire series from that point on. Anyone else out there like B5?

I watched Babylon 5 almost religiously. It had (4 me) good points and bad points. For instance:

I loved the pilot! Copeland's music was great! I wish I could get a promo of the music from the pilot. The subsequent music for the show blended way too much together. I forget his name but they've released a Bazillion CD's of his music for it.
As far as the narrative, the pilot did a great job of "setting up" future plot points. Regardless of whether they were fully realized, it made for good generation of interest.
I really like the first Commander (Sinclair); better than TRON (Sheridan). The first Commander could barely act but at least he wasnt a HAM like Boxlietner. (Why was the first Commander gone after 1 or 2 seasons anyway?)
Delenn was great and it was a MISTAKE to make her humanesque. very DUMB.
Tamilyn Tomita in the pilot was fantastic as well. Easy on the eyes and somewhat believable.
The role of the doctor was NEVER fully realized (I think). The first man was ok, just a tad dull. The second one was......an actor? Go back to ONE LIFE TO LIVE!!!!

    Yuck to Ivanova altogether.

Garibaldi? He KINDA grew into a character. It really seemed like they had NO idea what to do with him later. Not unlikeable though. He had more chemistry with Sinclair than with Sheridan. And his replacement? Zack? He ALWAYS looked like he couldnt wait for them to yell CUT so he could get some booze!!! WAS he? He was the epitome of "newly-sober" to me.

I must admit I had (have) a thing for Lyta. She was great in the pilot and THANK GOD she came back. That OTHER blonde clone they brought in was....bleccchh!!

There were 2 long-haired guys later in the series. YUCK! Put them in a ship with Ivanova and blow it to bits please. One of them was supposed to be able to kick ass and had a staff....
The other was a psychic. They had to be the blandest most aesthetically unappealing thing about the later years of this show.

Tracey Scoggins. How do u start a career as a "has-been"? She was OK, but I NEVER really BOUGHT her character. It seemed WAY WAY forced. And it probably was.

    Now for the BEST characters...

G'Kar and Londo.....FLAWLESS!!!!! I mean ALWAYS!!!! They NEVER WERE SUBPAR!!! I cant rave enough about these two..........

The other best characters in this series were the assistants. LENNIER and VIR. Vir MORESO but they were really UNDERUSED!!! WHY BRING IN THOSE TWO LONGHAIRED FOOLS!!!!! LENNIER could kick ass!!!!!

Im forgetting someone......who......? Oh yeah!!! CHECKOV!!! how could I forget!!!?!?!??
Bester was cool......I guess. For once Koenig showed versatlity. They should've bought him a better rug though.

But....The one that blows them ALL away? THE ONLY TRUE THESPIAN on board?????

Charben... I won't get into a Star Trek / B5 debate. Just remember one thing: For those of us who are *die-hard* Trek fans, Voyager is just fine. I loved the premiere and am looking forward to the rest of the season (which sadly, as everyone knows - is it's last).

I'm not going to knock B5 simply because it's a decent show - and you seem to really like it (as well as a number of our other members).

    Several points here...

First: Wouldn't Jessica Alba have a made a great NOVA for the upcoming APES film???

Anyway, the main difference between B5 and Star Trek? B5 had WRITERS. Star Trek apparently has borg drone sweat shop perpetuating Roddenberrys "vision" i.e. not letting it DIE the noble DEATH Star Trek desrves (right now). "DIE HARD" fans should realize that Paramount has NEVER understood what STAR TREK is about and simply keeps the franchise alive because you all would stand in line for days to see one showing of Janeway taking a space dump.

Dont get me wrong STAR TREK is fantastic and I love it and I'm NOT saying B5 is better or that I like B5 better CUZ I DONT. But ask yourself this, WHY ARE "THEY" BUSY THIS VERY SECOND TRYING TO COME UP WITH ANOTHER STAR TREK SERIES AND MOVIE?

    WHY?

I'm curious as to what u think the reason is.

My GOD, MAN!!! My hormones are raging!!! And I'm not a teenager anymore!!! She would be a terrific Nova... But not against Mark Wahlberg. George Clooney, maybe. Or Michael Biehn. Nova... Man, that Linda Harrison STILL gets the blood going...

On Dark Angel: Wouldn't be fair for me to comment, because I didn't see the show. But here's why I didn't watch (and why what meegle & Mark said about it "looking familiar" didn't surprise me):

Has James Cameron EVER had an original idea in his life?

I just can't support someone who plagiarizes other writers' work and BRAGS about it. Which Cameron has a long history of doing. Not that it'll matter, because IF DA lacks originality, it'll get what it deserves. You can only coast on a big budget for so long before people become bored and move on. Even if the lead is purty ;-)

Re: B5, I liked it, mostly. That they had a 5 year plan was obvious, unlike, for instance, Chris Carter/X-Files, where threads are dropped like leaves in the fall when he can't figure out what to do with them.

Voyager has a very good cast, but with a couple of exceptions, they've not had the kind of standout eps that DS9 had.

meegle, couldn't agree more that it's always about THE WRITING. First, comes The Word. I expect a lot from a writer: respect my intelligence, be emotionally true, make me think, remember the history/backstory, foreshadow and FOLLOW UP on it, and most of all, SURPRISE me. How many movies/TV shows do that?

    Too true Debi.

Robert Beltran has even said that he thinks the writers are brain-dead. I wouldnt blame THEM though. I'd really like to beleive that they come up with some good ideas (which is sometimes true) but then Paramount doesnt want to "rock the boat". Nyuck Nyuck if it aint broke then dont fix it! Yeah whatever.

I find it hard to beleive that B5 was entirely thought out. WHY DID MICHAEL O'HARE leave after only the first season????????
X-Files is yet ANOTHER candidate for the "EUTHANASIA" award like Star Trek. Let it die already. As of last season it had become laughable.....LITERALLY?!?!?!

Of course ALL my fave shows get the can...

    1. ACTION (fox)

    2. FREEKS and GEEKS (nbc)

    3. CUPID (abc)

    4. C-16 (abc)

meegle--I LOVED your first three fave (canceled) shows too! Probably would have liked the other 3 if I'd caught them. Action was wonderfully wicked, but then I have no allusions about H'wood and a lot of people do. Probably would have done better on HBO. Cupid--bad timeslot, got jerked around, and worst of all, was on ABC (Already Been Cancelled). Freaks & Geeks, maybe too painfully true?

re: B5--Well, JMS SWEARS that the first captain leaving was always part of the plan. Personally, I think the actor didn't click with viewers & that's why he was replaced. Curiously tho, it went from an actor who WAY undeplayed everything (O'Hare) to an actor who OVERplayed everything (Boxleitner).

Oh, and Crusade...IMO, it had problems. The premise was weak--they're searching for a cure for a virus that supposedly is going to kill everyone on Earth---but they didn't seem to be in too much of a hurry to do it. Some interesting ideas/characters, but just not very well developed. And that music...so discordant as to be physically painful. I'm never going to be an Evan Chen fan...

Yeah Debi I listened to that Crusade music at Borders for free....AND WANTED MY MONEY BACK!!!

By the way JMS HAS TO BE LYING about Sinclair. In the opening 2 minutes of the pilot, LONDO says, "Under the leadership of its FINAL commander..." whilst we see a medium close shot of O'Hare.

    Rubbish JMS!!

The impression that I got was that O'Hare was replaced for the name recognition factor of Bruce Boxlietner. It was probably just a business decision.

I hate to inject a note of reality, but as a veteren of Sci-Fi/TV wars for over 30 years, it's nothing personal (Usually).

"They" aren't conspiring to make Star Trek suck or anything else. It all comes down to business. Does the show make money? If yes, then they will keep making it until it stops making money. It is really that simple. The only way to kill a financially successful project is someone with a gigantic ego try and argue with the executives about whose schlong is bigger.Financial failures don't need that excuse.

B5, Star Trek, X-Files, Buffy, Dark Angel, The Visitor, Lost in Space, all of them are just product in an industry town like Hollywood. Good or Bad only matters after the bottom line is met.

Believe me, if Misfits of Science had made a ton of money, it might still be on no matter how bad it was.

You want to know who kill's TV series? Accountants. They have those sharp little pencils and if the ad revenue doesn't outweigh the cost per episode, its off to the SCI-FI channel to recoup revenue.

SCI-FI Television is EXPENSIVE. It has to do much better than other kinds of progamming to get into black ink. There are many stories of writer's coming up with really cool story ideas that the producer kills because the episode could never make money.

Want some entertainment where money isn't the motivating factor? Try community theater. But they will still charge at the gate.

MWRuger: Couldn't agree more--TV is simply a business. That we EVER get anything quality out of it, given that playing it safe is usually what businesses feel they need to do to make money, is amazing. Thank goodness there's still creative people out there who know how to play the game & not totally sell out.

Nowhere is this more evident than the push to save money by using synthed scores because it sounds "just as good." Time was, TV scores were played by orchestras. And that's the way most composers prefer it. Did McNeely synth Dark Angel's score? Seems like they spent all their money on FX...
