    1. Did Graeme Revell compose Santa Muerte in The Crow: City of Angles?

    Heck if I know.
P.S.: Angels. (Angels use hair gel.)

    2. Is Trevor Jones' score to Cleopatra completly off store shelves now?

Pretty sure it's still on the shelves at Sam Goody, maybe Tower, too....heck, they virtually never clean out the soundtrack section....

    3. Why is Trevor Jones's score to Excalibur so popular? Its doesn't sound like a score that would be popular.

Aah, you know...It's one of those score that isn't readily available to the public, so that makes some folks crazy enough to seek it in any of its' forms and pay big bucks for it. Folks always want what they can't have....
Best alternative: find a copy of Trevor Jones' Merlin, a bit of symphonic Wagner, and a decent version of Orff's Carmina Burana. Probably never know the difference.

    4. How many of you have noticed a change in your behavior due to your intrest in film music?

Couldn't say, I've been listening to film music since I was two, so...if there has been a change, it's been walking, feeding myself, and being able to find the toilet by myself, so I'd say film music has improved my life greatly.

    5. Have you ever lost friends because of your interest in film music?

Have I ever lost a current friend? No. A potential friend? Couldn't tell.

    6. What is a Funfa King?

    A joke.

    7. How do you listen to loud and chaotic music, such as The Cell, The Mummy 1 and 2, Aliens?

    On a stereo that's calibrated from 1 to 10...?

    8. How can some people have a favorite score, that they rave about, and then when the composer or another composer does another simular score, they hate it.

    Repetition of style.

    9. Why hasn't Jerry Goldsmith lost his long hair yet? He's 72 right? He's still a Hippie isn't he?

Genetics. And you'd have to ask him.

    10. Other than Ford Thaxton, are there any other exclusive Soundtrack Producers out there?

    Sure.

    11. What is James Horner's best and most original score?

No opinion. Love Horner's work--just couldn't offer an opinion of his "best and most original"....perhaps The Mask of Zorro.......

    12. Why do you have to buy CDs that say "Not for Sale" printed on them?

A supressed human nature to disobey authority?

    13. Do you only visit the MovieMusic.com message board? Or do you visit the others as well?

The second one. But I only post here. In my opinion, it's the most worthwhile.

    14. Are there any cases when a score was released, but the movie somehow never made it?

    Sure.

Oh, you want examples? Well...Schaffner/Goldsmith's Lionheart for example. Was released theatrically in Canada, though didn't get released in the U.S. There's probably a lot of scores out there for films that only get direct-to-video treatment....

    15. How long should it take to score a movie? I always thought a week was plenty of time. But apparently not.

Well...how long it should vs. how long it could take are really highly debatable issues....ideally, the composer should have as much time as he/she needs, but such is not always the case....

    16. Do composers do anything else for a living? Like when composers don't score a movie for a whole year. How do they support themselves?

Symphonic arrangements for Metallica? Orchestrations on other composers' work?
    Writing music for theatrical productions?
    Lecturing in universities?

    17. Are the London Symphony and London Session orchestras the same?

Why do you think they're the same?

    7. I listen them VERY LOUDLY - with earphones on.

    11. An American Tail

    13. I may be the freak here, but I always go thru new Soundtrack Reviews, take a peek at the Members Profiles, and then I venture into the Message Boards. - - - And when one does this almost every day within two weeks, he IS a freak

    14. The Rocketeer, for example.

    15. Elliot Goldenthal said once that he needs only couple of days to create an entire score. Now that's very avant garde, isn't it?

    16. Movie music composers usually share a
dream - to be as appreciated as John Williams.

    Keep on making questions, TimT

    9. Why hasn't Jerry Goldsmith lost his long hair yet? He's 72 right?

He probably still has more hair than I do... and I'm only 22.

    11. What is James Horner's best and most original score?

Best: Sneakers. Most original: Of those that I know, probably Casper.

    12. Why do you have to buy CDs that say "Not for Sale" printed on them?

I buy DVDs all the time that have "Not for sale outside the US and Canada" printed on them...

    13. Do you only visit the MovieMusic.com message board? Or do you visit the others as well?

The "other one". I (very) occasionally browse other boards, but don't have the time to post there or read them regularly.

    15. How long should it take to score a movie? I always thought a week was plenty of time. But apparently not.

Keep in mind that "classical" composer often took months (sometimes years) for one symphony. Now, film scores are longer, and probably more difficult to compose, as a symphony just follows a logical structure. A film score must follow the film, so you can't simply develop the music based on your learned patterns.

    16. Do composers do anything else for a living? Like when composers don't score a movie for a whole year. How do they support themselves?

Some conduct. Some write concert works. Some are simply popular enough to have enough money.

    18. What do you think of On the Beach?

Hm. Interesting so far, but I've only seen part one of two yet. A bit too TV-esque, and parts are too much like a soap opera, but I'm interested how it continues. The score is great, which becomes even more apparent in the film.

    NP: Watermark (Enya)

Two completely different things. Best might be Willow or Star Trek 2, and I do like Clear And Present Danger as well; I don't know Krull very well. Most original...I don't know - does Commando rip from anything?

The same way I listen to Schindler's List; NICE AND LOUD!!!!!!

I wish I knew his secret.

    Some teach.

    17. Are the London Symphony and London Session orchestras the same?

    not answered in Chronological fashion:

    4. How many of you have noticed a change in your behavior due to your interest in film music?

Sort of related, but I notice I am more hostile on music message boards now. Mostly due to what I term an increase in the Dumbass Factor.

Ah, but at the same time, when I sign off the 'net, I sign off and think no more of the various forums happenings. It's fun to pepper forums with my radically conservative views (some of which I may or may not hold) and watch all those who disagree lash out in anger in order to educate the ignorant. Especially rec.classical.music.

    2. Is Trevor Jones' score to Cleopatra completly off store shelfs now?

I haven't been able to snag a copy. Lancelot mentions Sam Goody, etc. That's fine, but they charge an arm and a leg. Hardly goody.

    7. How do you listen to loud and chaotic music, such as The Cell, The Mummy 1 and 2, Aliens?

    with the volume way up.

    12. Why do you have to buy CDs that say "Not for Sale" printed on them?

scams probably. no one has ever adequately answered this for me. "To re-coup production costs" is a cop-out. CDs cost at most $5 to make.

    13. Do you only visit the MovieMusic.com message board? Or do you visit the others as well?

I visit FSM, Filmtracks, rec.music.movies, and rec.music.classical (which is a very snobby and angry bunch).

    15. How long should it take to score a movie? I always thought a week was plenty of time. But apparently not.

I believe a composer should be given 3 full months to write a great score -- if it's a worthy film of course. I doubt someone needs 2 months to work out the scoring for something like American Pie 2. But that's me.

    1. Did Graeme Revell compose Santa Muerte in The Crow: City of Angels?

    No idea.

    2. Is Trevor Jones' score to Cleopatra completly off store shelfs now?

Here in Malta it never even appeared.

    3. Why is Trevor Jones's score to Excalibur so popular? Its doesn't sound like a score that would be popular.

    Haven't heard it.

    4. How many of you have noticed a change in your behavior do to your intrest in film music?

I drive slower so i can listen to more music during trips. I also enjoy red traffic lights.

    5. Have you ever lost friends because of your interest in film music?

    Nope.

    6. What is a Funfa King?

A great composer whose POTA rules.

    7. How do you listen to loud and chaotic music, such as The Cell, The Mummy 1 and 2, Aliens?

Not too keen on chaotic, but loud is fine by me.

    Such as?

    Coz they're cheap.

    13. Do you only visit the MovieMusic.com message board? Or do you visit the others as well?

    Not that i know of.

    15. How long should it take to score a movie? I always thought a week was plenty of time. But apparently not.

I wish composers had more time like in the golden age. I love 90s and recent scores, but imagine if giving the composer more time could make them 50% better.

    16. Do composers do anything else for a living? Like when composers don't score a movie for a whole year. How do they support themselves?

    Dunno.

    17. Are the London Symphony and London Session orchestras the same?

I have a story to offer up for question #5.

While I haven't lost a friend over film music, and hope that the day never comes I lose any friend. I've known childhood friends that have dies in the ghastliest of methods, and I have witnessed a psychological breakdown in others.

However I lost one would-be friend, and I thank god I did- we met over soundtracks. He had copies of ones I didn't and I borrowed a few of his. This was in high school, a time when I was easily humiliated and psychological taunted (weren't we all), but the degree to which I let it scar me is something of a certain amount of amazement.

Anyway, the "friend" as our relationship went on, his whole purpose in calling me up on the phone was to harass me, come up with assinine ways to offend me- until one day he hit a nerve. I let this harassment go on for months during my Sophomore year until just as spring came up. One day he saw my sister. He commented on her beauty. He then proceeded later to call me up and first get her on the line and started trying to detain her unsuccessfully at which point I warned her and my family about him and the harassment I recieved from him. The point at which he hit a nerve, the last straw, was when he told me he wanted to rape my sister. That he was going to find her during school when I wasn't looking and acost her. The only edge I managed to find was when of my other classmates, a person whom I thought could've cared less about my existence who informed me her family were cousins with another family that had adopted this guy. It was during this conversation that she had informed me that they had to put up a restraining order on him, for reasons that weren't made clear to me, but I could guess. I confronted him over the phone about this and he decided he wanted to stop talking to me. That was at the beginning of my Junior year. We never spoke after school as we used to. I stopped hanging out where we used to while waiting for the bus. I avoided him in the halls. After the harassment about me and my sister, I felt stupid as to why I let him enjoy it, let him do it for so long. I didn't need him. I didn't that kind of friendship, the kind where someone self indulgently and self righteously believes it's ok to mess with someone's insecurities. To an extent, I let him do it- but I hold him responsible for taking advantage of those insecurities back then.

Two to three years later I saw him working as either security or a janitor in a store. He saw my sister and I, and he had an almost evil grin. My glance was no less than defensive at him. He kept his distance as we kept walking away. Later that day, in the rest of the mall we were at, we saw him in the distance going for food at a place called the "Jailbird Cafe"- one of those themed joints in the food court. HE didn't notice us- but I took great delight in imagining him behind bars. I wasn't proud of it, but I thought it just the same.

He must've liked the fact that we had something in common at first, but then saw he could have some fun at my expense, whether it was my sensitivity, sensibilities, etc. I got two things out of the relationship: a chance to hear soundtracks that I now own personal copies, and a reuniting with an older friend from my grade school days. I owe him nothing for that. I believe those could've happened any other way.

Perhaps that episode in my life made me stronger. I do apologize for spilling my life out on this thread- but I think it serves as an excellent warning to all of us. People can take advantage of you when you don't see who they are, when you can't see the reality coming. That just says I was a bad judge of character. At least I learned something. It's kind of sad- it was rare in those days to find someone interested in soundtracks unless they were in the Band department. I didn't get to meet those guys until later into my Junior year. And this was well before the internet had reached me.

It's never the soundtrack- it's the circumstances between people.

    1. Did Graeme Revell compose Santa Muerte in The Crow: City of Angels?

    Don't know.

    2. Is Trevor Jones' score to Cleopatra completly off store shelfs now?

I never saw it on shelves, but it seems to be unavailable even online now.

    3. Why is Trevor Jones's score to Excalibur so popular? Its doesn't sound like a score that would be popular.

    I've also never heard it.

    4. How many of you have noticed a change in your behavior do to your intrest in film music?

Yeah... I now log on every day and read messages from a bunch of people who listen to music nobody else likes. (no WORDS? You listen to WHAT?)

    5. Have you ever lost friends because of your interest in film music?

    Nope! Made a few, though.

    6. What is a Funfa King?

    No clue.

    7. How do you listen to loud and chaotic music, such as The Cell, The Mummy 1 and 2, Aliens?

If it were truly choas, I doubt I would like it. As it is, I hear structures and developement in all the scores you mentioned. But of late I've noticed my ability to appreciate "strange" sounding scores has grown. (Like, say, Alien3, which had I heard five years ago, I would have dismissed as crap.) The fun part of that is discovering I now like scores I meant to get rid of but never got around to disposing of.

    8. How can some people have a favorite score, that they rave about, and then when the composer or another composer does another simular score, they hate it.

I don't know... I'd like both. (I love Medicine Man. I also love Island Of The Sharks. They're similar. So?)

    9. Why hasn't Jerry Goldsmith lost his long hair yet? He's 72 right? He's still a Hippie isn't he?

He uses the power of the ponytail (and rogain).

    10. Other than Ford Thaxton, are there any other exclusive Soundtrack Producers out there?

    Don't know, don't really care.

    11. What is James Horner's best and most original score?

I'd go with Zorro or Sneakers for most original, but best is really tough.

    12. Why do you have to buy CDs that say "Not for Sale" printed on them?

As was already said, cause they're cheap.

    13. Do you only visit the MovieMusic.com message board? Or do you visit the others as well?

I visit Scoreland and Filmtracks regularly. I find myself posting less at Filmtracks now (and here, too, over the past couple weeks). Partly because of the bickering, which I really don't like, and partly because of the "rehash" factor; IE, new posters posting old ideas in new posts because they didn't see the post with that idea a year ago when they weren't around.

    14. Are there any cases when a score was released, but the movie somehow never made it?

    None I know of.

    15. How long should it take to score a movie? I always thought a week was plenty of time. But apparently not.

Aagh! ONE week? Ideally, I'd say a month or two. It really depends on the film, but still...

    16. Do composers do anything else for a living? Like when composers don't score a movie for a whole year. How do they support themselves?

I plan to compose. And write books. And do whatever else I feel like.

    17. Are the London Symphony and London Session orchestras the same?

    Don't know.
