I've no idea. But I paid about 30 pounds for the Barbarella LP, and that was twenty-five years ago. I've since seen that its value is about half that price...but I don't much bother about what's "rare" and what isn't. So there!

Hotel Paradiso/The Comedians by Laurence Rosenthal

I love to play this one on random, mixing up the comedic tracks from Hotel with the dour, tribal music of Comedians....

    Great stuff,

To be honest, I wouldn't know whats rare and what isn't. I've got loads of scores on LPs which people have mentioned are rare....do LPs count? The Golden Voyage of Sinbad, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, some early Phase 4/Decca? recordings of Psycho and Vertigo etc etc. I think my rarest score though has to be my LP promo copy of "The Old Man and the Sea" signed by Tiomkin himself.

I've got some Chapter III albums, too. I guess they're a bit 'rare' already.
  • Logans Run/Coma
  • Last Run/Wild Rovers
  • VIPs
  • El Cid
  • Don't Make Waves/Penelope
  • Where Eagles Dare
  • Dirty Dozen/Dingus Magee

I can't believe that some of these titles were only distributed for about six months!

    Some Intrada hard to finds:

  • Inchon (horrible)
  • Warlock (not much better)

Soon to be hard to find from FSM:

  • Omega Man
  • Paper Chase/Poseidon Adventure
  • Towering Inferno

I don't really know all the time which of my CDs are truly rare, but I reckon that my original soundtrack CD to the 1976 movie King Kong by John Barry is fairly rare. It is one of Barry's best scores in my opinion regardless of it being rare, but as far as I know the CD was only released in Italy and has been available as an import only anywhere else.

    Beat Girl (J. Barry)

Is Paris Burning? (M. Jarre - Japanese pressng)

Oh, come to think of it, I know that I got a couple of more rare ones:

    Elmer Bernstein The Magnificent Seven
    Elmer Benrstein The Great Escape

Both with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, both released on BMG. They stayed in the stores only for a couple of months until some never exactly explained legal problems forced BMG to withdraw this release from the stores. I don't know how many copies managed to get out in the open, but it's not a lot. Then I have the original 1986 release of Goldsmith's Legend and also the once ultra expensive ($ 275.-) Japanese release of Under Fire.

Gotta go offline now. Perhaps I can think of some more. I need to go through my collection and take a look.

    Whoops. I almost forgot:

Elmer Bernstein by Elmer Bernstein (This is a compilation released by Denon Records in 1993. It was a bunch of suites from classic Bernstein scores conducted by the man himself and performed by the RPO Pops. A well-constructed album that, IMPO, is sadly missing an "Animal House" suite; I know that Bernstein detests that type-cast phase of his career, but it's one of his all-time best scores, IMO. It's currently being sold through Bernstein's site, making it not very rare, but it was when I bought it. And yes, that is the actual title.)
Tenchi Muyo Music Edition Vol. 1 (Seikou Nagaoka + songs; it's pretty rare here in the States.)

    Hi there,

I had also been searching in vain to get this Bernstein re-recording of THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN (RCAVICTOR). Apparently as I undertsand, the cd was recalled from the stores due legalities and issues over the cover pictures.

I was very lucky to finaly get a copy off Ebay.com last month. I love this performance and its beats the heck out of the version which was recorded by James Sedares on Koch Label.

By the way, those still interested in getting this version, I reccomend on getting a copy right off Amazon.com which just recently got a few copies back in stock!

    best

Soundtrackman, I think you and I are among the few on this PLANET that have the original ROOTS OF HEAVEN LP. (I too have GOD'S LITTLE ACRE on LP and WIND on CD.)

I have been inspired to go to my musty LP cabinet to search for things that few people have (or probably care about!):

    Will Penny - David Raksin
    The Awakening - Claude Bolling
Bite the Bullet - boot on "RFO" (Rescued From Oblivion) label - Alex North
    Baby Doll - Kenyon Hopkins
Joseph Andrews - John Addison (in the mode of TOM JONES)
Sodom & Gomorrah - Italian double LP, digitally remastered - Miklos Rozsa
El Cid - British reissue with uncredited extra track - Miklos Rozsa
Chinese Adventures in China - Georges Delerue (on the infamous "Poo" label
    The Nightcomers - Jerry Fielding
Prince of the City - Paul Chihara
Too Much, Too Soon - Ernest Gold
On the Beach - Ernest Gold
Inn of the Sixth Happiness - Malcolm Arnold
    Barabbas - Mario Nascimbene
I Love You Alice B. Toklas - Elmer Bernstein

and from the Elmer Bernstein Filmmusic Collection:

The Miracle/Toccata for Toy Trains (Elmer Bernstein)
A Summer Place/Helen of Troy (Max Steiner)
    Scorpio (Jerry Fielding)

Dana, I have some of those LPs you mention too (Scorpio, Prince Of The City, The Awakening). They may indeed be "rare", but how do we know? Are we just talking about things that came out ages ago? By the way, Dana, what's that Will Penny you've got? Is it the one with bits of other scores on it, or was there a release I don't know about? Brilliant score! "DON'T KNOW TOO MUCH BUT ONE THING I'M SURE OF, A MAN AIN'T NOTHIN' MORE THAN A MAAAAN!"
