I see that many here sell and trade their CDs...how can you do it? I must have some sort of compulsive hoarding obsession because I can't bear the thought of parting with any of my CDs! Even if I haven't listened to it in a while, I know I can't sell it because as soon as I did, I would want to hear it again. Sigh...hopeless, simply hopeless.the filmscore gal,

The only score I've ever parted with is Batman Forever. And I didn't look back.
But your right. I don't know how they do it.Np: Nothing. Although I'm humming Dungeons and Dragons (Justin Caine Burnett)

Well in my case, I buy alot of scores without intentions of seeing the movies first. I base my buying selection soly on the music and style of the composers that I like. But sometimes I'll get a score that I really don't find interesting and wind up trading or selling it off.
Also on some rare cases I somehow wind up with muliple copies of CDs so I get rid of some of those.
Like Lord of the Rings for example, I had the advanced promo, regular releases and limited edition. Once I realised that the limited edition was a big waste of money compared to the regular release; (The only thing you get is the leather bookcover, it didn't even come with a trading card!) I wound up trading it with a guy a Hong Kong since the LE CDs aren't sold there.
Sometimes those CDs do come back and bite me in the butt though. I mean I've had a couple of CDs that I sold/traded away that I regreted I did so afterwards. Like Moon 44 and My Best Friends Wedding promo. Because I later started to like those scores. Luckily I was lucky enough to find those hard to find CDs agian. Infact I wound up with 2 copies of Moon 44. So if anyone is interested in a sealed copy of that let me know.[Message edited by TimT on 01-07-2002]

Obsessed ? Definitely !!!Some five years ago my biggest goal was to collect all the essentials, I mean ALL the classics and even more - but then I finally found a LIFE and just didn't have the time, and not even the money, to continue the collecting. After that, I really lived almost one complete YEAR before I visited any music store. Then, another year went by, and although I did buy some CDs, I felt I didn't NEED to collect that "essential" collection anymore - maybe I had grown up a little bit to understand that I had been merely obsessed with the IDEA, not the music itself.
Then, after a third year, I finally decided to get an Internet access - and, as my saying goes, the rest is history...

Since I HAD BEEN collecting these "essentials" plus other stuff ONLY TO expand my collection - not actually listening to them - during the autumn of 2001 I decided to get rid of almost half of my collection. Thus, I got acquainted to the wonderful world of trading (and getting acquainted also to CDRs, bootlegs and other stuff, which I WOULDN'T NEVER BEFORE wanted to receive - that's how the tide turns sometimes...
)So the resolution is that nowadays I AM OBSESSED with the thought of getting all those most wanted scores on CD - and the future seems to look VERY bright because I've got acquainted to so many GOOD, trustworthy traders who seem to want to make more trades with me (- AND, HEY, all YOU guys & gals out there - please hold on; I won't be able to start any trades before I have moved myself to another apartment...)
So, I'm not actually obsessed with film music collecting anymore,
but more precisely collecting ONLY the scores that I really, REALLY, want.
- Besides, the film score industry nowadays seems to lack all that "melody magic" I prefer, so this kind of new obsession suits me very well.
I know, I'm a traitor
KENPS. Galina - warmest thanks for the "recommendation" -
I've been just wondering what I have done to earn that kind of thing from you ?

I don't like to trade or sale CDs. Even those I don't listen anymore. But I also don't like to watch them collecting dust, so I usually just give 'em away so they might enjoy someone else.

A few months ago, for the first time ever, I actually thought I should offload some of my score collection and it was incredible how some of my friends resisted this idea. The bottom line is that I've never done it and would find it exceptionally difficult to do.Before I moved into this apartment - we had a garage sale where I sold some of my books and that was equally as hard. When I sold my first batch of classics I became visibly upset. That's sentimentality for you.
Parting is such sweet sorrow....

Every time I've sold or given away something, I wind up spending 3X the time and money to get it back again. So now I don't dream of getting rid of anything, even stuff I don't like, because you never know when the Eureka might strike.
