My earth science teacher wants us to connect our interests and earth science for a project, and suggested to me that I find a piece of film music that reminded me of some event in earth science (aka a volcano erupting, or the course of a rock, or something else-) His definition of earth science would be anything under the fields of: astronomy, oceanography, meteorology, and geology.
I can't really think of anything myself, so I was wondering what suggestions you people would have. The soundtracks I have to choose from are:
    Gladiator
    Cast Away
    The Ultimate Star Trek Collection
    Gettysburg
    The Mummy Returns
    Star Trek: Insurrection
    Star Wars: Episode 1
    Lord of the Rings
    Star Trek: First Contact
    Star Trek: Generations
Oh, and- it's not from a movie, but I love some of the music for it anyways, and I do have the CD handy-
Total Annihilation (the name is misleading, don't think of me as blood-craved-)
If you have any suggestions, I'll gladly take them.
    Thanks!

The end credits from CAST AWAY... waves, anyone? :) I mean, tidal attraction, the Moon's effect on it, or even hydroelectric power if you want, but... you know... the sea.

You could bring the theme of the Nazgūl as a volcano erupting, if you want to stretch your imagination... and "Crash" from GENERATIONS could also represent a volcano erupting and the unlucky citizens fleeing from its rampage.

Jared, I don't know if this is very appropriate, but the late great Mario Nascimbene did some very interesting "primitive" music for neanderthal earthquakes and stuff in One Million Years BC. Or check out Alex North's rumblings for pre-dawn man in 2001. Some better ideas will come to me. Oh, it's just come to me! Philippe Sarde and Quest For Fire!

Well, that's got pre-history out the way.

I've just realised that this may not be what you're looking for...

The Perfect Storm was some good music for waves. Track 5 I believe.

Bernard Herrmann's Mysterious Island has some great representations of storms at sea, as well as a volcano erupting at the end. The main title (and other places where that theme is repeated) does such a good job of representing clashing waves that it's almost frightening!

Well, some of those suggestions sound great, but I only have the soundtracks I listed handy right now. And I doubt I'd be able to go out and get any of the suggested soundtracks between now and then.
As for track 8 for Generations, that I could do. Let me pull that CD out and I'll see how well it would fit.
With all my Star Trek stuff, I was thinking an astronomy event. I dunno- the lonely First Contact theme as the life of a comet. Or track 10 from the same CD as the creation of life on a planet- something like that. Maybe not- well, I'll keep looking.
