They're also releasing a Deluxe Edition of the score for Rollerball (the original). Hmmmm...this is kind of odd...it doesn't seem to me there would be too much interest in this...maybe if they're into releasing oddities now, they'll return to Richard Band...impossible? yes...but I can dream...

Not necessarily Dylan....I'm pretty excited about getting ROLLERBALL '75 on cd, since I just got an lp transfer a month ago
Nice score, even though it's a pastiche, and I know many people have been wanting it on disc for quite awhile.....of course I would be happy if they focused on more Band as well, something Intrada did in the 90's.

SeanAnd the Arnold and Newman titles sound pretty good, looking forward to those films for a change

where does it say anything about Richard Band.
all it says is "music conducted by Andre Previn", and goes on to talk about Beethoven and Tchaikovsky.posted 03-25-2002 10:59 PM PT (US)

Personally I've got all the Band I want - the REANIMATOR and PUPPET MASTER discs, and a few from Intrada; is there much unreleased Band that's any good still out there (at least, as good as MUTANT)?
I still say I'd like Varese to dip into their old pre-CD catalogue: F/X, SILVER BULLET, THE KINDRED and so on.

Richard, does your "few from Intrada" include The House on Sorority Row / The Alchemist? I think that's by far the best Band CD Intrada put out.
How is Rollerball?

If more Band does get released, at least let it be orchestral and not synths....

Is ALCHEMIST/HOUSE ON SORORITY ROW orchestral or the dreaded keyboards?

I LOVE Sorority Row, great score, very nice theme, I play it often
Alchemist is not bad either, cut from the same cloth, but Sorority is the one that does it for me.
Sadly OOP Intrada title

Band made a nice score with Full Moon's Doctor Mordrid. I liked that one. When will somebody re-release Pino Donaggio's Tourist Trap (doesn't Varese own that one)?

When will ANYONE release all those great Donaggio LP's!??!?!Tourist Trap, Home Movies, Hercules, The Howling, Piranha....there are more, some non-Varese, but I hope somebody fixes this injustice someday(and no the old VC Club Cd doesn't count, since it's edited six ways to Tuesday).

"House on Sorority Row"/"Alchemist" is the one Band CD I own and I love it. The theme from "House" is absolutely beautiful, and the suspense cues are also good. The 'music box' theme sounds exactly like "The Amityville Horror"...something that director Mark Rosman more or less admits to in the liner notes. I love it, though. The theme from "Alchemist" is just lovely; it doesn't even sound like it was written for a horror film. A terrific pair of scores; highly recommended!quote:

Yeah, add my vote to get that site going again
Just to play Devil's Advocate(JNH?), compare track two of Sorority to track two of Herrmann's Sisters

G'night everyone!

Does anybody know why Richard Band doesn't get enough work??? Compared to some hacks, he at least has potential. Is the lack of big films because of his brother, Charles' (aka the Producer with the most nine lives in Hollywood) not so sterling reputation as a low budget, cheapskate (even non-paying), cheeseball filmmaker/producer of schlock horror (Full Moon anyone)?[Message edited by Taylor on 03-26-2002]

Hello,Glad to see Richard Band being discussed. I'm not completely sure why Richard Band hasn't reached the height he deserves (ex. more offers for films). He is one of my very favorite composers and it's unfortunate I have no idea what his current projects are. My best guess is that he's still trapped at WB writing scores in synth for cartoons and 7th Heaven/Buffy/Stargate.
It's a shame he is stuck doing this because I believe he has a tremendous talent for writing outstanding and brilliant orchestral scores for film...He wrote gorgeous orchestral scores for low budget science-fiction/cult/horror films from the late 1970's until the late 1980's when it became more difficult to afford an orchestra for a low budget film (at least I believe this was the case). Since then, he has become (In my opinion) the greatest composer for synth (he's really worked wonders with it I think, with scores like Puppetmaster, Demonic Toys, and Doctor Mordrid...certainly not the best of his work [save the cue "the theme from Puppetmaster", which I believe to be Band's finest theme] but very adequate and accomplished for synth)...but his compositions need to be performed with an orchestra.
Ghost Warrior, in my opinion one of his greatest scores, remains unreleased (yes, not released in any form (not only is it not available commercially, there's no bootleg or promo even), except a very fine suite composed of three cues on Band's promo "Film Music Over the Years"). This score utilizes the gorgeous pan-flute, and has a very beautiful asian influence throughout, and it ends astonishingly (I have studied the music from the actual film).
Would be wonderful to see Band receive more attention. Here's to see that dream some of us here have (of him being hired to compose a score for a studio film [ex. univeral, fox, miramax, etc.]) become a reality.Best Regards,
Dylan[Message edited by Dylan on 04-17-2002]
