I'm off on holiday next week and am going to make a couple of compilation CD's to take with me, so, baring in mind that the climate is sunny with palm fringed beaches, great snorkelling and some good hiking to be done in some big mountains I thought I'd put it to you good folks for some ideas on music tracks..

Come on folks, lay it on me...

Jaws 2 End Titles of course! And some Bruckner for hiking (he won't ask you why anyone would want to play his music on a mountain )

NP: Anton Bruckner: Symphony #4 (Berlin Philharmonic, Karajan)

    Timmer!
How about Jerry's Islands In The Stream, and "Gift From The Sea" from Papillon?

Hey Timmer...you could do worse than listen to the following music....

    The Vikings
    Slipstream (End Titles)
    Eye of the Needle (suite)
    The Time Machine (suite)

Oh, and also I hear Always is a good CD plus you cant go wrong with some good ole Hammer Music. What do you think?

Gae NP She/Vengeance of She (Some CD I got recently at a good price! )

How about The Beach? It might be a little tense in some parts but the main theme is a winner for that kind of environment. Other options are:

Barry's Thunderball Suite from the anniversary double disc bond set, it's about 20 mins in length and has some great "tropical" bond music.

    Zimmer's Rain Man (end titles)
Zimmer's Beyond Rangoon (anything) I listened to this while on the beach in australia, very cool.

Revenge by Jack Nizsche has some somber guitar work.

Goldsmith's Ghost and the Darkness and Congo are wonderful choices for hiking music, I listened to them while exploring ruins in Mexico, now that was cool.

    Hope that helps.

    Rich

Snorkelling? Jaws, Jaws 2, or Deep Blue Sea.

I'm shocked to see that I have hardly any beach music in my collection. Not even sunny music. Yeah, Lawrence of Arabia, but that's not quite the right type of "sunny" for a holiday.

NP: Young Sherlock Holmes (Bruce Broughton)

Make sure you included some cues from 'Waterworld'. 'Main Titles' might be good for a hike. 'Main Credits' and 'Swimming' would be perfect for some evening ambience.

Also, you could try Fenton's 'Blue Planet' for a sense of open adventure and bewilderment.

What about 'Galapogos' or 'Jurassic Park'?

I love Jeff Rona´s score to White Squalls! That is a very relaxing music there...

Thanks for the replies people...I'll take them all into consideration (except those mentioned that I don't have!)

Just like to mention that it doesn't have to be the OBVIOUS choices, just tracks that capture an essence!

Tracks that I have chosen myself include...
    The Search - Poledouris (Conan)
Three Years Later - Newton Howard (Vertical Limit)
Gifts Of Nature - Barry (Beyondness Of Things)
The Journey - Poledouris (On Deadly Ground)
    The Light - Goldsmith (Poltergeist)
Many Meetings/The Council Of Elrond - Shore (LOTR)

Putting it all together so it flows could be interesting

Keep laying those ideas on me...I'll let you all know later this week what the full track listing will be.

p.s. no more underwater titles...how can I listen to music snorkelling? ...as it is, every time I've done this sort of thing the theme to JAWS always comes unbidden, playing around in my head like an unwanted dose of flu whether I like it or not

If your swimming and you see a Great White coming towards you, swim towards it...it freaks em out...TRUE!

Beaches - "Romancing the Stone" - End Credits; a perfect example of sax on the beach.

Hiking - This is a little on the nose, I know, but you can't go wrong with "Cliffhanger".

How about some of those Russian pop/rock tunes I sent you, you know, the ones you never said if you liked or not?
