On July 2, Sony Music will be releasing a compilation of original scores from Paramount's vaults. The thing is called "The 90th Anniversary Collection."Goldmembers, your mission is to find out exactly what's on this thing, and if it might have some real treasures. So, polish up those magnifying glasses, grease up your internet connection, and get sleuthing.
If you have nothing good to report after the investigation, please refrain from posting, or I'll have your head severed for the Queen.

Dare I hope that there might be some Michael Small jewels on there, like Parallax View and Marathon Man?

Don't know about the tracklisting, but a member of the competition says the catalogue number is 87736.And that it's a 2CD set.

Well I hope some Mike Small is there, maybe some unreleased Indiana Jones Music? (Ha!) I would like Copland's The Heiress Main Title but I have heard the original tracks and they are damaged
I suspect it may be a Greatest Hits type of CD

Maybe it will be like the score CD included on Warner Bros. 75th Anniversary Box Set..... basically, themes from their bigger films. If that's the case, I wouldn't really expect anything uber-rare... but ya never know....(And Brian, what on earth was the point of your post???)
(Sorry Peter - I should have clarified in my original post what I was referring to)

No backpeddling, please. It is a compilation of scores as originally mentioned. There is no mission if it wasn't abundantly clear from the beginning this is a "score" compilation (as is suggested from the industry shorthand title, "Paramount 90th Anniversary Collection: Scores").Go forth and get thee some good scoop!

Seems Amazon.com is the only place that even recognizes it. But no track listing.

Peter,As a retailer, don't you have the ability to call up Sony and ASK them what's on the release?

An underestimate of my free time I sense, and the idea of inserting a little fun and a challenge for those who like to "scoop." Your head will now be severed and served to the Queen, and your Goldmember status revoked.

Off with their heads, Peter. Two quotes fron recent movie on TV:
1. "Steer northeast, battle speed. I want to close the distance with those carriers."
2. "Alright men!!! Lets get in close and get hits."

I tried calling customer service at sony music, and the woman i talked to could only find the list of releases for july 2nd. My guess is that it is still too early yet to get any info, but she gave me her extension and I'll keep checking with her as long as it takes. She is also very curious and is now helping find info for the better good of MM.com. I'm very close though. Keep investigating goldmembers!Rich

Isn't that when the CD comes out? So either it's not being released on that day, or something's fishy.

Thanks to Sony Music, our news columnist Patrick Gambier has managed to find out what this double CD will contain...

Yep. Greatest Hits. No surprises. I strongly suspect the early scores are re-records...The Heiress, for instance, is taken from the mediocre 8 minute suite from 1994 and suffers from some slow tempi.Oh well.

How about the Waxman, Rozsa and Bernstein they list there? Probably re-records too...I knew that aspirations of some new Small and Rosenman cues were a reach. But hey, at least they got a cue from that classic PRIMAL FEAR(Howard) in there! Can't find THAT one in any cutout bin across America

One question: don't the music rights for Saving Private Ryan belong to DreamWorks? Just looked at my CD and noticed that. I know the film was co-produced by Paramount, so do they share music rights for the film? One comment: this seems to cover primarily an era of music I already know (1970s and on). I wish more of the earlier scores were represented. But I'll probably buy it.

If they don't own the rights on that cue, they still can license it, can't they ?

They already licensed it for the Williams "Greatest Hits" double-disc. I see that the Raiders selection is the awful, awful, slow-as-hell re-recording.Shaun

Couple of weeks ago he says says "We're too busy, not enough people to work on the TZ site", and then he walks around searching for info and posting it on other message boards. Yeah... I'll believe you next time...

Great job, though, getting that tracklisting.

Frankly, I'm appalled that they used Clear And Present Danger (especially the opening cue, which after a minute, becomes yet another tired retread) and NOT The Hunt For Red October, which is SO much better. No love for Basil, I guess.Shaun

I swear, besides being a rude record producer, his favorite thing is mentioning that poeple are bitching.Yes, Ford. You say it like we have no reason.
Hey, they don't call it show business for nothing. Now please stop bitching, because it makes me look bad. Oh wait, that's normal.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go talk Howard Shore out of doing an isolated score/commentary track for LOTR.

I think Sony is putting this out for the mainstream consumers who want the themes and not the whole score. I don't think it's targeted at us film music fans.
