If there's anything us film score fans like to talk about, it's score that we wish would be released/expanded. Some of us even like to imagine how we would release the score if we were given the opportunity. Track names, package design, etc. Share it with us!

I'll start with the one I am probably dying for the most!

ALONG CAME A SPIDER: The Ultimate Edition!....

*Cover: Same as Varese release except it would say "Original Motion Picture Score" at the top.
*Back: Morgan Freeman and Monica Potter standing in the dorrway with their guns pointed down (like on back of VHS/DVD)
*Side bar: I've always like the clear ones better than the gray/black ruffled ones. Behind the clear one of this edition would merealy be an extension of the movie poster.

    Testing (5:15)
    Alone (1:05)
    Megan’s Abduction (3:19)
    The Madman (4:47)*
    Megan Overboard (4:51)
    A Bigger Fish (3:03)*
    Cop Killer (3:51)
    Missing Picture (8:18)*
    The Ransom (7:27)
    A Terrible Thing (5:40)*
    Profiling (3:46)
    Not My Partner (3:46)
    Along Came A Spider (13:02)

    Total Time (69:26)

    *Unreleased

    Unreleased/Altered Track Details:

    Testing
    A) "Night Talk" & "Testing combined

    The Madman
    A) Megan talks in her sleep
    B) Tea for Megan
    C) Soneji watches Megan on the surveillance camera
    D) The Roses’ hear the tape
    E) Cross and Sonji’s phone conversation/The mailbox/Drive to the Roses’

    A Bigger Fish
    A) Dimitri and Soneji’s computer chat
    B) Dimitri’s escapade

    Missing Picture
    A) “Soneji was hoodwinked, and so were we”
    B) Looking for clues/Empty frame/Cyber space
    C) Soneji’s house/”Like a spider”
    D) Megan’s intercom plea

    A Terrible Thing
    A) Jezzie is stunned
    B) Agent Devine watches the news
    C) Megan wakes up in the barn
    D) Soneji spills his guts to Alex
    E) Soneji’s death/”What have you done?!”

Along Came A Spider (This is actually kind of a suite/overture I constructed because I felt the conclusion of “Not My Partner” was too abrupt for an album like this. The track times may vary on this one.)
    A) The Ransom (0:41 – 1:32)
    B) Alone (0:00 – 0:35)
    C) The Ransom (2:17 – 3:01)
    D) The Ransom (3:33 – 3:59)
    E) The Ransom (4:12 – 4:20)
    F) Alone (0:00 – 0:44)
    G) The Ransom (5:46 – 7:27)
    H) Alone (0:00 – 1:07)
    I) Cop Killer (1:34 – 3:51)
    J) Soneji spills his guts to Alex, except this time it cuts off before the “Nature or nurture” line (approx. 1:10)
    K) Varese Sarabande “Testing” cue (0:42 – 2:09)
    L) Not My Partner (2:57 – 5:02)

I don't mean to brag, but I think this would kick fanny as an actual release. I'd give up one of my kidneys for it!

I don't know about you guys, but I think this score is worth it. I actually sent this to Varese Sarabande, and Goldsmith himself. He's probably gonna hate me now

I must admit that there's not much out there that would get me really excited...and practically NOTHING from scores of the last few years!

My taste buds would only salivate at...

A complete James Bond back catalogue done with as much care and effort as Ryko's The Living Daylights release. EMI...YOU have been found wanting!!

John Barry's KING KONG...great score to a bad film that's a guilty pleasure for me

Jerry Goldsmith's THE FIRST GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY and ALIEN...two great scores from a very prolific and excellent period for Mr.G.

James Horner's TREK II & III...damn fine music missing from when Jamie was great and even outgunning Mr.G at times!

Basil Poledouris's CONAN THE BARBARIAN...THE GREATEST FILM SCORE WRITTEN IN THE LAST 40 YEARS...I WANT IT COMPLETE GODDAMIT!!!

    NP : nothing

P.S. I would sell one of David Maxx's kindneys for my above list

Um, didn't you already post these threads at FSM? Did anybody care over there?

One of these days, you're going to HAVE to realize that Along Came A Spider is an incredibly lame, unoriginal Goldsmith score.

Shaun, quit being a bitch. Yes, I posted over at FSM, but not everybody over HERE posts THERE. Yes, some people did care. There are over 100 replies and they are not just from me.

By the way, your opinion of the ACAS score is yours and yours only. Don't state it like it's a hard core fact and expect me to agree.

    "Mystery, Alaska"

I've been wanting this one for a long time.

I don't have any fantasies regarding track titles though.

Another one I'd like is "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines."

I could rattle off some suggested track titles, but I don't have time. Anyone care to fill in?

The third and last: "The Pride and the Passion." (No, it isn't "Bolero.")

    Hell yeah!

    *Cover: Same as VHS/DVD cover.
*Back: Batman & Vicki (from back of VHS/DVD)
*Side bar: The clear one. It looks better, and it will help avoid confusion between this one and the song album. Behind the clear one of this edition would merely be black.

    The Batman Theme (2:38)
    Mugged (2:03)*
    Roof Fight (1:20)
    Alley Chat (1:31)*
    The Lucky Deck/Surveillance/Ratted Out (3:46)*

    Flowers (1:51)
    Clown Attack (1:57)**
    Roasted Dude (1:01)
    Photos/Beautiful Dreamer (3:00)**
    Unpleasant Surprise (1:29)*
    A Work Of Art (1:08)*
    Batman To The Rescue (4:22)**
    Descent Into Mystery (1:31)
    The Bat Cave (2:35)
    News Flash (0:57)*
    The Joker's Poem (0:56)
    Childhood Remembered (2:43)
    Love Theme (1:30)
    Charge Of The Batmobile (1:41)
    Attack Of The Batwing (6:23)**
    Up The Cathedral (5:04)

    Final Confrontation (5:03)**
    Finale (3:06)

    Total Time (73:13)

    *Unreleased

And let's have the original tapes this time! I have the feeling the music was re-recorded just for the album. Let's hope this doesn't mean the original tapes have re-use fees.

With the advent of the SE DVD later in the year, here's hoping that this classic score sees a release:

BACK TO THE FUTURE (Alan Silvestri)

"Back to the Future" Overture (aka End Credits) (3:11)
    Revealing the DeLorean (0:39)
    "You Disintegrated Einstein!" (0:57)
    Libyans! (4:31)
    "What is it?" (0:31)
    Hill Valley, 1955 (1:31)
    The Town Square (1:04)
    Lorraine's Room (0:30)
    Finding the DeLorean (1:10)
    The Flyer/"Erased from Existence" (1:31)
    Science Fiction Theatre (0:11)
    The Skateboard Chase (1:32)
    Marty's Letter (1:16)
    The Trunk (0:47)
    The Punch (1:31)
    George and Lorraine (0:46)
    Fading (0:39)
    "It's Been Educational" (0:49)
    The Clocktower (9:57)
    The Libyans Return (1:19)
    "...what the hell" (2:15)
    "Everything's Great" (0:39)
    Doc Returns (1:07)

As it happens, there's a petition at www.chez.com/bttf to make this CD a reality. Also, check out the track listing page; apparently, me and the webmaster are on the same page.

It's just pathetic the way you learn what re-use fees are, and since that day, every single thread you post in has at least one mention of them. It's annoying as hell. You have to learn about scores that came out before all films were in color. At the very least, about scores that came out when the average film was shot 1.85:1 (I'm talking about the 70s, David).

Your posts in this thread, particularly the parts about how the front, back, and even SPINES should look, remind me of people who dress up Barbies, and go to such lengths as searching online for a blue-pattern homemaker outfit, but NOT the one that looks plaid. The OTHER blue-pattern, like the Pillsbury logo. It's kind of a Donna Reed thing you're going for. And your Barbies ALWAYS must have underwear that match under the dress, because you don't want people thinking you're "dirty" do you? How dare those Barbie manufacturers produce a woman's doll without undergarments!

Anyway, that's just how I see it,
    Shaun

First of all, re-use fees have nothing to do with your annoyance with THIS thread. Second of all, that's quite an exaggeration. I do not post it on EVERY thread. You just have a very low tolerance for any form of behavior imaginable. Almost every thread YOU post in has some sort of pessimistic remark. That's annoying as hell to me, but I am not about to stick my nose in unless I am involved.

You have to learn about scores that came out before all films were in color. At the very least, about scores that came out when the average film was shot 1.85:1 (I'm talking about the 70s, David).

Pardon me? I HAVE to learn about them? I don't think so, Ruthie. I don't HAVE to have a certain taste for any score. I listen to whatever I choose to listen to. I'm sure you would not like it any better if I dictated to you what kind of score(s) to add to your shelf.

Your posts in this thread, particularly the parts about how the front, back, and even SPINES should look, remind me of people who dress up Barbies, and go to such lengths as searching online for a blue-pattern homemaker outfit, but NOT the one that looks plaid. These are my fantasies, Shaun. That means I am going to imagine these scores released in the best way possible. What? Do you want me to say, "uh the hell with it, I'll settle for the gray bar"? Would that make you happy? Why don't you just stop visiting this thread if it's so sickening?

By the way, I'm still waiting for you to tell me what is BAD about what I'm doing....

What you don't realize, David, is that Shaun DOES have a point. There is a wealth of AMAZING film music that came out in the 1970s and earlier. A good deal of it is leaps and bounds above some of these "expanded" album fantasies you pine for, especially dreck like Along Came a Spider. You're really limiting yourself by bumbling around so much in the present with your score taste and knowledge. There was a point when I knew nothing about these scores, too...until I decided to actually listen to people like Shaun, who knew more about scores than I, and dive into the realm of the unknown. And that dive into the Golden Age and the Silver Age was incredible. Seriously, stop imagining score releases that will NEVER happen, and go listen to some Herrmann. Your ears will be opened to a world you refuse to acknowledge exists.

Besides, the ONLY score posted on this list that has ANY chance of a release is Back to the Future. Not an extended Batman, and SURELY not an extended Along Came a Spider.

    Mike

I really don`t understand this fascination with ACAS. It`s a **** score, but I am aware that it is a great score in your opinion. But it`s a bit of a rip-off US Marshalls and Chain Reaction with some of the most uninspired writing EVER in JG`s career. (and this includes shite like Criminal Law)

Nah Monkey, nothing beats the drival that is Criminal Law, it worked fine in the film but is almost unplayable as an album (this was probably one of the LAST lp's I ever bought) it joins Mr Baseball and Runaway amongst the Goldsmith albums that I find unlistenable!

As for ACAS, I found it merely okayish Goldsmith scoring, it's nothing inspirational but it doesn't offend my ears. If David Maxx wants a complete score of this then that's cool but I honestly can't see (hear) the fascination with this one when there are literally (and if pushed I'll name em ) a hundred or more Goldsmith scores that are better!

NP : nothing...sometimes silence is truly green or some other such colour

    Redemption (2:52)*
    Bitter Fruit (4:14)*
    Goodnight (1:50)*
    Khan Rises (3:37)*
    The Sanctum (3:33)
    Who Are You? (4:02)
    Chest Pains (3:26)
    The Knife (3:05)
    The Hotel (5:53)
    The Nightmare (2:31)*
    Topsy Turvy (4:18)*

    The Shard (4:03)*
    Frontal Lobotomy (2:28)

    Total Time (53:16)

    *Unreleased

I made this one using my "Goldsmith" imagination. I kept it at a reasonable length (but not too long), and made sure listenability was maintained. Although, i am pretty sure Goldsmith's version would still have been different.

    VALENTINE (Don Davis):

    Valentine (3:18)
    Medical History (6:54)
    The Funeral (2:35)
    Skin Deep (3:36)
    Dorothy Confesses (3:02)
    The Axe (2:30)
    Bleed Me Dry (3:35)
    Red Hot Tub (3:36)
    The Fat Girl Sings (2:06)
    The Nosebleed (1:28)

    Total Time (42:06)

The good thing about this RE-USE FEE-less score is that it has no RE-USE FEES to keep it from being released like I STILL KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER had RE-USE FEES, STUART LITTLE had RE-USE FEES, and PREDATOR had RE-USE FEES. It also doesn't have any RE-USE FEES to cut it down to 30 minutes instead of 40, like a lot of Varese's RE-USE FEE CDs containing RE-USE FEES do. Some examples of these are SCREAM which has RE-USE FEES, ALONG CAME A SPIDER which has RE-USE FEES, and another AIR FORCE ONE which has RE-USE FEES. I like it when there are no RE-USE FEES to keep things from being released because RE-USE FEES are so dumb. RE-USE FEES are the root of all soundtrack evil and should not, like all RE-USE FEES, keep such good scores from being released. Whoever thought of RE-USE FEES should be punished for thinking of RE-USE FEES. Darn those RE-USE FEES.

P.S. To save you the agonizing trouble, I mentioned RE-USE FEES 20 times.

P.P.S. By the way, Shaun....RE-USE FEES!!!

Forget it, Shaun. Just don't ever tease about being 16 again, when you are clearly the one who is being immature. Find something more useful to do than to bug innocent members and count their words. Now, I am going to stop responding before you screw up this thread like you did with my "Varese Sarabande" thread with your superfluous whining about sound.

P.S. It WAS 20. Look again!

I love how he says that whining about sound is superfluous. Without sound......how could you love the score to Along Came A Spider?

This is how I believe, if not for the intense re-use fees, Jerry Goldsmith would have wanted it (or at least pretty close).

[Message edited by David Maxx on 06-13-2002]

I'm not picking on you David but don't be too sure about Goldsmith wanting a longer album. He's stated a few times he prefers shorter score albums. As for Air Force One the only other cue I've heard Goldsmith wanted on the album was the Russian Choral heard when Radek dies.

I would love a CD release of this score. That I know of, I seem to be the only person at film music message boards that knows or cares about the work of the two virtually unknown and incredibly talented composers who wrote the score.

DIGIMON: THE MOVIE (Udi Harpaz & Amotz Plessner)

    Introduction/The DigiEgg (1:38)
    The Egg Hatches (3:18)
Coramon in the City/Digimon Fight (7:04)
    Computer Virus (0:57)
    Internet Glitch/The Digimon (2:38)
    Everyone's Unavailable (3:10)
    Digimon Fight #2 (3:32)
    Internet Battle/Rebooting (3:44)
    Multiplication/Backwards from Ten (2:39)
    It's Over (1:33)
    Going Digital/Omnimon (2:07)
    Glitch Destroyed (1:34)
    Meet the Team (2:38)
    A Trip to Colorado (5:35)
    Digimon Fight #3/Another Ride (3:09)
    Willis' Story (2:52)
    "He'll Find Us" (1:41)
    Final Battles/"Time to Heal" (8:08)
    Finale/Another DigiEgg (1:21)

As performed by the Tel-Aviv (!) Symphony Orchestra, this is a very good score.

    A few things:

Justin - Nice work. Those are two terrific Ira Newborn scores.

Shaun & Hornerfan - David, Justin and myself are dreaming out loud, and if that's a crime, lock us up and throw away the key.

Dan - You may have opened up a new can of worms.

SBD: Shaun and I weren't bitching at you and Justin, just David for his ignorant crap that he's reposting here after posting it, and getting flamed for it, over at FSM. There's a line between good taste and pure nonesense with this dreaming. David wanders into pure nonesense way too much. Whomever suggested the Back to the Future CD may be on the money; I wouldn't be surprised if that score gets a legit release through the Varese Club, since it'd actually be in demand.

    Pleased. Nice work, Shawn.
I imagine even Goldsmith wouldn't enjoy listening to 60+ minuts of ACAS, knowing that the score was nothing more than a paycheck he needed at the time.

Umm... wasn't VALENTINE recorded here in Los Angeles?

Yes, but with electronics. There was never a CD release because Don Davis felt embarassed by the project. This is a shame, because this is a case where the score is better than the movie itself.

Also, I think that Don's promo might have a lot more than 10 tracks on it.... No promo exists, and [believe it or not] that is nearly the complete score. I just omitted a few minor cues.

Shaun and I weren't bitching at you and Justin, just David for his ignorant crap that he's reposting here after posting it, and getting flamed for it, over at FSM.

Oh, so you're saying because we have a few obnoxious poeple over at FSM and here at MM, that I am supposed to let them push me around and shut up? Not happening! It ain't my fault I am getting flamed for this. It's people like you and Shaun that don't know when to keep their rude opinions to themselves and except the fact, like a man, that people are not always going to like what you expect them to like. In my eyes, it is you two that are ignorant. You say ACAS has no themes nor any inspired writing. Wrong! ACAS is filled with nothing but themes, but you just expect to find them all in one listen.

Also, HF, you seem to think that all that matters in a score is something original and inspired. Did it ever occur to you that maybe I like that music simply because of the way it sounds, and the moods it expresses? I am also very fond of how much it fits the film. Maybe I, unlike some people, am just not hard to please. I think Mr. Goldsmith would find it rather relieving to know that there are people out there like that.

There's a line between good taste and pure nonesense with this dreaming. David wanders into pure nonesense way too much.

HF, that is merely a matter of opinion. I don't mind if you loathe ACAS, but please don't state that opinion like it is a hard-core fact. Anbody who likes ACAS, considers it their 3rd favorite Goldsmith score, and yes even wants a D.E. of it has every right to express that on a board w/o people like you raining on his parade.

Whomever suggested the Back to the Future CD may be on the money; I wouldn't be surprised if that score gets a legit release through the Varese Club, since it'd actually be in demand.

Once again, I am not going to convert my tastes just because you don't like it. I don't care for B.T.T.F, so sue me. You don't like my taste, go find a pillow and cry in it. You are never, EVER, going to convince me that liking ACAS is a sin. PERIOD!

P.S. And this is the last I am going to say to BOTH of you. I am not about to let you get this thread locked like you did with my Varese thread, as I see that is exactly what you are trying to do.

With all due respect, Dan also said it had re-use fees, and it doesn't. I happen to know for a fact it is all electronic and does not have such fees. Jamie Blanks, and even Varese Sarabande, have said so.

Even if a promo DOES exist, it is practically non-existant. So we need some kind of wider release whther it be commercial or, more likely, a limited 2000/3000-edition. And if such an album does exist, I'd like to see the info.

I have said it once, I'll say it again... David, you have the enthusiasm of six normal human beings.
Duder, I don't blame Tamahori for Along Came A Spider. I blame the producers. There was clearly some tampering done to that film, probably as a result of test screenings. He's had every one of his American films tampered with... I see his career paralleling that of Peckinpah's for some reason. I'd hate to be the producer who has to wrassle with Lee Tamahori.

Thank you, BMikeJ! It's just one of the many things I enjoy about film scores.

THE MAN WITH TWO BRAINS (Joel Goldsmith):

Yes, it doesn't sound like the kind of movie that should have a score album. However, as silly as this movie can be, the music is some of the scariest I've ever heard. Some '80s techno with a twist of old-fashioned sci-fi/horror. It is one of the many comedy scores that often takes itself seriously.

The Man With Two Brains (1:52)
    Finger-Suckin' Good (3:25)
    They're Alive (2:55)
    Spit Take (2:50)
    No Brain, No Gain (1:32)
    Gorilla With A Fist (1:40)
    The Scum Queen (3:01)
    The Body Snatcher (3:28)
    I Don't Mind (2:36)
    Brain Power (5:05)
    Heavily Ever After (2:32)
    End Credits (2:09)

    Total Time (33:05)

With all due respect David, please go back and re-read my post. I never said it had re-use fees. I was ASKING if it was recorded in LA, since that's what I THOUGHT it was. (it was a question, not a statement).

Sorry, it sounded like one of those question-statements for correction. The answer is "no" to re-use fees. My best guess is that it WAS recorded in Los Angeles. However, does a promo exist fot this score? If so, would it be possible to e-mail info for it? Thank you!

Do electronic scores have re-use fees? Because up until now, I was perfectly sure they had none. Varese Sarabande told me that VALENTINE was done with electronics and therefore had no such fees.
