Topic: Score of the month!

I thought it would be nice, for us to say, what was in our opinion the score of the month. So, here I start:MINORITY REPORT (John Williams)
I know, it came in june, but I have recieved it in july, so for me, it is the score of the month. John Williams again shows what a master of music he is. I have heard the score now about three times, and I still find new fascinating themes and developments. The scores highlights are Andertonīs great Escape, Johnīs Theme and
a bunch of other cues, but those are the highlights. Williams has crafted a neo-noir score that could be well have been used by Billy Wilder for Double Indemnity or by John Houston for The Big Sleep.
Canīt wait for CATCH ME IF YOU CAN!Best regards

HALLOWEEN: RESURRECTION, I guess. Even though the movie sucked like a New & Improved Dirt Devil.

I second that vote on Minority Report, Justin. I found it be one of John Williams' darkest scores. Particularly the beginning scene. As a matter of fact, I bought it, first thing after I left the theater.

Well since we have all sorts of other useless lists, might as well join the party.K-19 Widowmaker would be my score of the month.

For July, I'm leaning toward Road to Perdition myself.posted 07-31-2002 04:19 PM PT (US)

Apart from portions of Goldsmith's Sum of all Fears and Williams AOTC, I haven't heard anything new that's particularly turned my crank.

This topic puts me in a quarry. I saw Signs on the 29th of July, listened to the CD on the 31st of July, but the film isn't officially released until Aug. 2. So if I say signs is the best score of July, id it valid? If not, then Road to Perdition. and I'd have no problem switching Signs to August. I doubt anything will top it in the next 30 days. But then, there's "XXX."

as much as I liked Minority Report, Road to Perdition has it beat.MR comes off as an extension of AOTC, whereas Perdition sounds exactly like Newman had the time to write a exquisite score.
and I LOVE Reign of Fire, but not as much as the other two aforementioned scores.
If only Shearmur had penned an identifiable theme for it.posted 08-01-2002 10:06 AM PT (US)

Hmmm....I think I would put in a vote for John Ottman's humourous and ironic score for "Eight Legged Freaks" which has to be some of the best comedy/horror/action movie scoring in some time.
I have not laughed so much at a movie in a long time that does not take itself seriously, plays with cliches knowingly, and makes fun of itself all at the same time.
Listen for variations on "Itsy Bitsy Spider" in the music! It is great and well-tracked in the film.
The scene with the old barber in the sporting good shop with his pitchfork being followed by a spider in a tent and with "Strangers in the Night" playing over the mall muzak is priceless!
