From Varese's site:BALLISTIC: ECKS vs. SEVER
Original Motion Picture SoundtrackSelections include:
BT — “Smartbomb”
Bedrock (aka DJs John Digweed and Nick Muir) — “Heaven Scent”
Crystal Method — “Name of the Game”
Curve — “Hell Above Water”
Darude — “The Flow”
Sasha — “Bloodlock”
and more!Plus selections from the Original Score by Don Davis
In the deadly game of international espionage, elite anonymous operatives wage secret wars for power, information and national security. Agendas are rarely what they seem. Word has recently been circulating in these exclusive ranks of an ingenious new assassination device. Microscopic and injectable, it lies dormant inside its victim until activated and then kills in an instant, leaving no trace.
In the frantic race to obtain this device, two agents, sworn enemies, are forced to work together if they are to have any chance of succeeding. One is an agent known only by the code name Sever (LUCY LIU). Lethally trained to be the perfect weapon, Sever is precise and relentless in her pursuit of a goal. The other is the brilliant and determined former FBI man-hunter Jeremiah Ecks (ANTONIO BANDERAS).
Once preeminent in his field, Ecks resigned from the agency when his wife was killed in an explosion that left him a guilt-ridden emotional shell of himself. Now, forced back into service by his former mentor for the most challenging assignment of his career, Ecks prepares to face off against agent Sever, his most formidable foe.
In the fierce competition for this deadly prize there can only be one winner. But when the rules change, these two dedicated adversaries find that the one they’re trying to defeat might be the only one they can trust.
With combined Soundscan sales of over 2.4 million units, these artists can truly be considered the superstars of Electronica music.
This Warner Bros. picture opens September 20.

THE TUXEDO
Original Motion Picture SoundtrackMusic Composed by John Debney and Christophe Beck
Cabbie-turned-chauffeur Jimmy Tong (Chan) learns there is really only one rule when you work for playboy millionaire Clark Devlin (Jason Isaacs): Never touch Devlin’s prized tuxedo. But when Devlin is temporarily put out of commission in an explosive “accident,” Jimmy can’t resist trying on the tux and soon discovers that this extraordinary suit may be more black belt than black tie. Suddenly thrust into a dangerous world of espionage, paired with a rookie partner (Jennifer Love Hewitt) even less experienced than he, Jimmy becomes an unwitting — if impeccably dressed — secret agent. Two of Hollywood’s hottest young composers (John Debney and Christophe Beck) join forces to create a heroic and action-packed score.
Jackie Chan becomes a virtual James Bond in this action blockbuster from DreamWorks that opens on September 20.

"Ballistic: Ecks Vs Sever" has to be the all-time worst title for a movie.

I understand that Varese is aiming to create a product that will appeal more to the public, and if a BT and Crystal Method selection will help fund a Deluxe Edition of The Great Train Robbery or something along those lines, then I won't gripe... too much. Because it seems silly to put much effort into releasing music from a movie that doesn't even make the effort to have a decent title.
As for the other release, The Tuxedo sounds like fun.

Note: I haven't heard a note of Beck's work on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", but I loved his (unreleased) score from last winter's "Big Fat Liar". It's good to see him get a CD release. The film looks like great fun, as well.
Though this begs two questions:
a) I heard that Beck (by himself) was scoring this film. Is this a sort-of redux of the "Mystery Men" scoring situation?
b) Have Debney and Beck ever worked together, let alone met, before this project?
Speaking of Debney and an up-and-comer, Louis Febre (working with Debney's themes) is scoring next month's "Swimfan". Shockingly, not a note shows up on the TVT soundtrack. Just thought I'd mention that.
P.S. "Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever", despite what you might think, is not the worst title for a film. I seem to remember a little film a few years back entitled "Return to Paradise" (if you've heard about the film, I needn't elaborate).

I thought it was appropriate. Return to the Paradise of your past to face the consequence of your misdeed.....It's not like people would understand what "Force Majure"(sp?) means....

I think Ballistic on its own would have been an acceptable title... Having seen the trailer, this movie looks like fun. Gregg Henry and Lucy Liu together again... After their funny work together in Payback, I expect to have a good time.

Not mentioned on the site is "Swept Away" by Michel Colombier. I think I was able to make out that Varese is doing this off the trailer I watched today on the Internet.James

Having been a big fan of the ECKS VS. SEVER script for years, I'm actually pretty much in agreement with its new title being lame ass. They should've either stuck with E vs S or called it "BALLISTIC", not both. Now it sounds like a bad syndicated TV Pilot (i.e., in the VIP or THE SENTINEL mode).Still, the trailer is decent and the script had some of the most fluid and kinetic action pieces I've ever read, so... Who knows.
I've tried to get ahold of Beck's music for BRING IT ON and came close, but it never panned out. 's good stuff. Wonder how this new stuff will be.

Perhaps we'd be saving them a buck or two. This release will probably do more business for Varese than the majority of their other albums (which do better then you think!). It will fund their other projects, like re-recordings, Deluxe Editions, Club Releases and more.
I'm a little disappointed that there are only 2 Davis cues on the entire album (was this recorded in Los Angeles with a 500 person choir and orchestra?) but we haven't heard a note of the score yet.
Besides, Varese isn't going to drop this release if you throw a tantrum. They're in the business of releasing what we consider "art", but that doesn't mean they can't do what makes good business sense.

I'm sure they will make more money on this cd than most of their yearly output, and at least they put Davis' main title up front, instead of relegating the 6mins. on the album to the back, like a dirty secret...I just thought it was funny that there wasn't more room for Davis'...besides, the score is probably-most likely-I would assume-don't be surprised if it is all synth/techno anyhow....NP: Contrary Motion (Glass) Don Joyce on one HELL of a huge pipe organ..

Maybe that's all the "score" there is?

Richard, I thought so for a second also....but, nah, no way! This is an '02 movie, it probably has 70+ of Davis, shoehorned among the club cuts

Wouldn't it be ironic (don'tcha think?) if a MAJOR label like Warner Bros. released a "score only" CD?

JamesMajor labels do all the time or are you referring to Balistic? Sony Classics, Decca, Warner Bros, Electra, MCA, RCA etc have released score albums.
