    New poll!

Which "Hannibal the Cannibal" soundtrack freaks you out the most?

If you haven't heard all three (or four, depending) scores, by all means, toss the rules and make stuff up!

    None of them.

It's my experience that Goldenthal and Shore scores freak me out the most.

While I haven't heard RED DRAGON yet, I have to say that SILENCE OF THE LAMBS is probably the best one, even though HANNIBAL creeps me out a little bit more.

I don't think I would really even count MANHUNTER.

How can you decide? Each one has such a cool unique quality. Granted, I haven't heard all of Shore's "Lambs" score on album (so sue me ), but I think it's the Hannibal score that is the one that darkens my soul the most. I think part of it is actually due to the dialogue by Anthony Hopkins...it's the only score where I actually enjoy the dialogue with the music. The low string rumblings combined with Hopkins' occasional creepy narrative creates a wonderfully evil effect...then the beautiful opera at the end creates and equally creepy duality of dark elegance.

    Nice.

Let me be a little more precise on that Shore point.... It's the Cronenberg Shore's that freak me out. :-p
And also Tarsem Singh's Shore.... (ahum)

Mine's in the shop. I'll have to use a tire preassure gauge instead...but I don't know where to put it...

As for the creepiness factor, Red Dragon comes close, but Elfman's style is just so "cool" that I enjoy it more than I'm scared by its effect.

    Oh well.

I have to say, Hannibal is the creepiest one. The mix of classical, the dialogue, the chior parts, it just all is freaky. But I still like all the other scores to the films... well, actually, i haven't heard all of Elfman's Red Dragon, but it is Elfman and I am sure it will be good.

NP>The Fan (Hans Zimmer... Actually a little creepier than Hannibal, but deffinately way different and more psychotic sounding)

My vote goes to Hannibal. I usually play it when I am forced to something I'd rather not do at work, but have to do out of obligation. It helps me chill a bit.

I don't understand how everyone is saying Hannibal (well, mostly everyone) yet Red Dragon is beating both Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal right now... is someone cheating here?

Clayton, if people were cheating, the Hans Zimmer score would have 456,342 votes by now. This ain't no FSM poll. There have been, what, 5 people here who've said they prefer Hannibal... yet there have been 100 votes. The outcome as we see it now is very possible without the cheatin' factor!

I think Silence of the Lambs captured the scary side of Hannibal, and Hannibal captured his sophisticated side. Both did so brilliantly.

Having neither read nor seen nor heard Red Dragon, I'm not sure what aspect of the character they're meant to reflect, if any.

I'm actually really digging Elfman's Red Dragon, and that's the one I've voted for. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy Shore's score - and Zimmer's is great, too. But Elfman's is striking me as probably the best of the three (for me, that is). The orchestrations are fantastic.

My vote goes to MANHUNTER (cassette, no cd).
I normally dislike films with songs, but the song for the climax is perfect. And Ed Norton couldn't carry William Peterson's (CSI) xxxx strap.

Rent the dvd for MANHUNTER and let me know what you think.

BUT! Don't forget it's which score FREAKS YOU OUT THE MOST, not which is the best.

None of them freak me out... they're just not freaky scores. Either that or I'm not as sensitive as most... So, based on that, I have to go with which one I enjoy the most.

Zimmer's however is the least freaky of them all. It's good! But not freaky. That's what you wanted to hear, right?

Shore's music for Hannibal doesn't get under your skin? I have a hard time listening to the whole thing, cuz it's damn troubling. A hard listen.

Elfman's is completely uninspired this time around. A hard listen, but not for all reasons Shore's is, even though some of it might sound like Shore's. Temp track originals are gooogooo.

Zimmer et al's is ok. Moody stuff, but not freaky.

    Chillit!

Okay, okay... Yes, nothing beats Shore's original. But Elfman is really on a kick lately. I've really enjoyed his last three scores. And inspired or not, Red Dragon's some good Elfman, darmnit. Peter, you're just uptight cause the baby keeps spitting up.

Red Dragon, hands down! I still have that "dolls lined up flash with a giant orchestrated BOOM" in my head when I go to sleep, if you know what I'm talking about.

Thank you, Dan. I loved this album before I saw the movie, and think the score really works well in the film, but listening to it post-film, it's like a brand new experience. Glorious!

I've not heard Red Dragon yet (am seeing the film next week, & will pick it up afterwards if I like it), so had to go for Shore. I love that score. Get's right under my skin. Can't get enough of it.
As for Hannibal, I've not heard it on disc - but from hearing it in the film I don't particularly want to either.
