What'd you guys think? (movie and score)I'd say the movie was below-average, most definitely. Seemed far too run of the mill, with very few interesting characters (Farrel's psychotic Bullseye was the only one who interested me much, though I couldn't take my eyes off of Garner... Yowzer), a rather stupid and uninvolving plot, and some 7 or so insipid rock songs covering the film from beginning to end. The acting was bad too; really, this film just didn't have much going for it.
I did enjoy the atmosphere, especially during the night fights, and the ambience was pretty slick... I thought the "super-human senses" displayed via computer effects worked at times and didn't at others (I enjoyed the raindrop sequences quite a bit). The fight scenes themselves, however, seemed too contrived and rigid... There just wasn't much to em.
Revell's score wasn't too bad. The title was adequate (but nothing more), and there was that secondary "father" theme that sounded just like a T. Newman diddy, but it went well enough. Otherwise, like I mentioned above, the score didn't seem to get nearly as much time as the awful songs played throughout.
I'd say * 1/2 / **** for the film, and ** / **** for the score (which is really being too nice)... Just disappointing. I didn't expect something along the levels of Batman or Spider-man, but I did expect something more than I got.
So, what'd you guys think?

I see this as nothing more than a kids movie. It has all the glamour and visuals but no intelligence. The acting was alright, but the action was unconvencing. During the bar fight scene, Daredevil should have been at least shot or stabbed once. There were just too many armed people in there for him to just walk out completly unharmed. Even Batman gets shot or got knocked around a few times. It makes things more realistic.
I also found his fight with Kingpin to be totally fake. Kingpin is throwing him around everywhere, then just because of a spray of water, he becomes totaly unable to touch him. That scene should have been much longer.
And I'm not going to even get into him jumping off the tallest skycrappers, and landing without spraining an ankle or hardly bending his legs!I agree with Has'ta that Bullseye was the best character. But I just don't understand how he was unable to kill Daredevil with his supernatural strength! I mean to through a Boton from about 300 feet away hard enough to penitrate someone's chest requires a tremendous amount of strength~!
I didn't notice too much of Revell's score, but what was there was a little better than his recent stuff. I think Revell is a good composer, but ... he experiements too much making his score to be either a hit or miss. The last thing I liked from him was Red Planet, but do to artistic reasons he decided not to release the Film Soundtrack :-/
Anyway as of now Super Man: The Movie remains the best hero movie around Then comes Batman. X-Men 2 looks promising, The Hulk looks rediculous, and LXG (The League of Extrordinary Gentlemen) looks interesting.

I thought Daredevil was alright. The main title stuff was unexpected. The intro to the character tried to take the Batman route with the whole Gothic architecture thing which is the correct way given his Catholic nature. I was underwhelmed by the score and the use of songs, which made it like an action movie and not just a comic book movie. Talking about the action,... it was confusing at point. Mark Steven Johnson should stop doing so much closeups or medium framing with all the choreography. The result makes it all of a jumble. But when it's good (like the rooftop fight with elektra and the preceeding search) I was impressed with the director who's only past film is Simon Birch. Speaking of Elektra, the stuff in the coffee shop and the playground was very amusing to watch. Jennifer Garner is good in this role, but I'm still wondering if she was THE BEST choice. Ben Affleck is a good choice to play Matt Murdock. Getting a true fan of DD to play DD is a good choice and seems to do good in his portrayal. I really like the costume too
Colin Farrell/Farell/Farrel was an inspired choice, as was Michael Clark Duncan. The last part of the movie seems rushed. I didn't like how DD just tried to get revenge so quick. THe Comic Book version wouldn't ahve done it, or atleast within one night after being stabbed... But eh... it's just too much for one movie. Overall, the score was okay, the orchestral stuff near the last half should have been expanded further through out the score. Less songs. Somewhat confusing camerawork, though it's very good, considering... Good pacing, though the last part is rushed. The players tried and succeeded for the most part. Kevin Smith appeared in too short of a scene and he should have written the screenplay, or at least cowrote half of it. All in all, I'd want to see where they'll take the franchise in the next sequel.

They have to make more costumes, and at 5$ for the rubber and nylon, + 5$ for the Chinese in a sweatshop, that's an expensive 10$. Plus the tailor's union fees. Ripping a costume because of realism could make the movie go over budget, you know. :wink:wink:sarcasm:wink:

As I said in another thread last week, I liked it. The film reminded me a great deal of The Crow in its portrayal of gritty street crime, it's use of music and so on (you can go further if you like by saying both films have fights in a church, the heroes logo in flames and Revell scores). Daredevil was pretty darn true to the Frank Miller take on the DD source as well, and thus far from what I've gathered the results have pleased the majority of fans.Like The Crow it seemed to focus on its title character more than anything though perhaps still not enough for my taste, and all the Matt and Foggy stuff was great. It let set pieces take the back seat, which I liked, unlike Spider-Man, which really shattered my vision of a good Spider-Man movie I am sorry to say (I have kind of the same feeling toward Burton's Batman too).
The editing was the only thing that's a little off for me. Johnson has stated a number of times he reluctantly cut it three times to bring in a PG-13 rated movie, whether anyone will see his desired cut on DVD one day remains to be seen, though anything put back is unlikely to sway those who didn't like the movie in it's released state, and so be it...
The score I liked. I seem to like Revell's work more than most and found it not unlike Elfman's Spider-Man score in its presence (and despite my dislike for the Spider-Man movie, I am very fond of the score). Like Spider-Man it's going to be a score I can really appreciate (and hear without the mass of sound effects over bearing it) when it comes out on CD.
It’s done well in it’s opening, so the man without fear is truly sequel bound, but it’s only a matter of time before Hollywood’s lust over comic book franchise backfires in its face.

Ok well director Mark Steven Johnson has confirmed the DVD (I've learnt this will actually be the second Daredevil DVD release later in the year sometime after the theatrical cut) will be his directors cut so for those who liked the film, something to look forward too this autumn.

I personally liked the film. I thought it was more adult with a darker side than Spider-Man. And although I am not big on songs in films, they didn't bother me much in this one. The songs kinda fit the characters more than in other films. The score wasn't as I wish it was, but it was still good. It was lacking that gigantic heroic theme like all super hero films have.Clayton

It's better when you know two versions are coming before either will be released, as I am sure will be the case when Fox officially announce Daredevil's DVD outings in a few months time.Mark Steven Johnson has said they would have branched both versions of the film for one DVD release, but re-cutting the movie, doing the sound for the new footage, the effects plus all the extras are going to take too long and people will bitch if they can't have some version of the movie between now and christmas, thus, 2 DVD releases.
It's as easy as waiting until the autumn.
