Scoop day at Music from the Movies:
John Powell has been hired to score Mad Max: Fury Road, the fourth Mad Max film. Any thoughts on this choice of composer?

I'm not happy, get someone with better chops than Powell. He's not the worst out there, but he certainly has not proven (to me, anyway) that he has anything special to his music. I would'vve loved for Jarre to score it, but if not, than maybe Don Davis, Poledouris, Brian Tyler, Ed Shearmur or Frederic Talgorn. I want to no MV or former MV composers near these films...

Well, I was sure film music was dead with this news, but then I saw the Klosser news on the other thread and have renewed faith.

I have some of Powell's cd's, and I like his stuff. Although it's really 80's, I really like Ladyhawke. And Face Off had some great music. But I don't really see his style fitting in with Mad Max. But, could be an opportunity for him to shine.

"Ladyhawke" was scored by ANDREW POWELL who was the orchestrator/conductor on the Alan Parson's Project CDs. Alan Parsons was the music producer on that film.

Oops! You're right. Ladyhawke is still a good score though. But I'm right with Face Off, which I also like quite a bit.
