I have it on good authority that next Tuesday's announcement will be a compilation album called SHITCANNED: THE REJECTED FILM MUSIC OF JERRY GOLDSMITH.

I've figured it out!Varese has finally secured the rights to the entire score of "I.Q."!

And between this board and FSM....there are over 150 posts on this very subject...so at the very least, Varese has got people all a twitter over this!! Sounds like their marketing plan has worked perfectly!Joe

OK, all this endless speculation is too much fun for me to let it wither away, so I'll throw a little more fuel on the fire. FSM's message board has produced the following speculation:Tuesday, February 10 is also the date that Lucasfilm has set to announce specifications for the long-expected STAR WARS ORIGINAL TRILOGY dvd set.
And of course, Varese has been reissuing a lot of Fox scores lately, so might there be a connection? Hmmmmm...
I stand by my earier post: Varese's announcement has nothing to do with Goldsmith; the date is a coincidence. Now watch me be wrong.
(In fairness to those who first proposed this, check out the original thread over at FSM, if you can get past all the childish tit-for-tat bickering.)

RCA has the rights in perpetuity. The complete scores have already been released. Star Wars is not even in the cards.Besides, Lucasfilms, not Fox, owns the Star Wars scores.

Oh, you're right of course. Still, it SOUNDS like such a great rumor that I had to pass it along.RCA has them forever, huh? Good for them. I think they did a decent job with the oringal trilogy scores, so there's little chance of my buying them again anyway, but what about Episodes I and II? I assume Sony has an exclusive on those?
I know -- the complete remastered soundtrack and songs for the STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL!!!!

I don't know about forever. That's an awfully long time, but I would hazzard to guess that they'll have the rights to those scores until the end of the century! Hell, I would!

I've got an interesting question: What does everyone think HAS been the greatest Varese release so far?-Herrmann rerecordings
-2001: unused score
-Cleopatra
-Predator (because of it's unavailability)
-Omen Trilogy
-The Matrix (because it's a best seller)You could then ask yourself, what possible release could outdo these?

I think one them has to be The Robe 2-disc club release. To me Cleopatra, Vertigo and a few of the Herrmann re-recordings rank near the top as well.

Varese isn't cruel enough to force us to pay $129 for Damnation Alley, are they?I already own most of the content on the first three discs.
