Hello guys, this is my first post.

    New soundtracks in my collection:

    1. The Passion of the Christ (John Debney)- 4/5.
    2. Medicine Man (Jerry Goldsmith) - 3,5/5.
    3. The Missing (James Horner) - 4/5.

The first was a surprise for me. I didn't expect that Debney would compose such powerful music for this film. I loved the film and the music.

The music from Medicine Man was exactly what I had in mind. It perfectly captured the spirit of the forrest. Jerry is amazing with his synthesizers.

The Missing is a fresh and welcome approach from James Horner. Not one of his recent boring efforts.

Ooooo... I love duduk. Can you hear me Harvey Weinstein? In the spirit of your influence on Cold Mountain and Gangs of New York, maybe Miramax's next big Oscar bait can have duduk-based score. Mmmm... how about Howard Shore's The Aviator?

I'm listening to CHRIS YOUNG'S score for HARD RAIN -- okay, I'm a bit late with this one -- solid, lively, action outing but nothing overly memorable. I do remember the day when action movies had great themes, such as CAPRICORN ONE by Goldsmith.

Then again, I remember the time when action movies were about more than just a lot of cutting and movement.

    I hate getting old...

Same here. The Goldsmith set will be coming together with The Robe, and that's more than I should afford anyway.

New yesterday: A horrible disc featuring a 28-minute suite from Khachaturian's The Battle of Stalingrad film score. Clark Rundell leads the Royal Northern College of Music Wind Orchestra playing different wind-band pieces.
Most of the disc features second-rate music, awful arrangements, indifferent performance with a touch of "bored, amateur high school band" feeling, all of it presented in a totally flat recording without body or presence but with a hint of digitalitis in higher frequencies, sold for $30CDN when it shouldn't retail for more than $10CDN. Naxos quality at the Chandos price... not cool. Khachaturian film score not worth the trouble.

What is a Khatchaturian film score like in a film that Khatchaturian did the score for? (As opposed to one Hornakov did.)

It's mostly dull fillermusik with lazy themes. Sounds like a bad imitation of Shostakovich. Khachaturian probably should have stuck to ballets.
