Decca announced a 2CD release of the complete music from Gladiator on september 9th.
What do you think will be on this double cd pack?
The REAL complete score or just re-packaging of the previously released materials?posted 08-08-2005 08:06 AM PT (US) sean

Writing with no authority whatsoever on this: The 2CD set will be filled with new synth demos, all the music that HZ had written and that he claimed would never see the light of day, and furthermore, the music will be peppered with the incredible dialogue from this film that audiences have come to love and adore.By the way, what is it, like the 5 Year Anniversary Edition!?!

Shucks, the cat is out of the bag or so it seems. Here's where I must announce this website's first soundtrack release before some other schmuck beats me to the punch:The Island 1 month anniversary release, due 8/23, to include a bunch of music not heard in the film, like a few Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson tunes.
1 month anniversary! "Celebrate now before it's too late"

I am such a sucker that I know I will buy this even though I have the original and the more music from. Now if it turns that every pieces is the same as the original and the more music album, then I might reconsider. I might have to listen to the more music album to see if there are any worthy music I would like without the dialogues.

Actually I heard Christina Agulara will be on there along with duets from Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey, and one with Britney Spears and her husband. And the final track will be all of them singing "We Are The Clones" together. Should be a rockin analbum!

I checked on this in the new release schedule and it appears September 9 is not a valid release date and there is no information at Amazon or Decca's website. More corroboration, please![Message edited by PeterK on 08-08-2005]

I care! Even though it seems kinda ridiculous to call it an "Anniversary Edition," as if its on everyone's mind to celebrate the sweaty-men-fighting-in-cages movie. I'm gonna buy it if it has no dialogue on it; this score is one of Hans Zimmer's best.

Apparently this is a UK only release. This probably reduces the chances of their being any new material on it.

I'd assume that they would try to resequence the track listings so it'd run from beginning to end. But then, I have the 2nd volume only on MP3 format.... So I will have a chance to read up on the liner notes.

The linear notes in the "More Music From" CD release are very informative and definitely gives the perspective of all of the composers; it doesn't just focus on HZ and his take on "Mars". I really want to know if this darn thing will have any dialogue; this is one of the scores that pulled me into the whole scene of movie scores. I wasn't disappointed with the second release, but I wish that the dialogue was absent. It's good to know where some of the unused music was, but I would like to hear the unadulterated score. Also, Universal and Dreamworks plans on releasing a new extended version of the film in September; whatever happened to that good old term "Director's Cut"? I mean, Ridley Scott's got plenty of movies in which the DC has helped: "Legend" and "Blade Runner" all have superior DCs; "Alien", however, does not. I would much rather watch the theatrical cut of that.[Message edited by nuts_score on 08-08-2005]

I couldn't really think of any significant cues that were left out from the first 2 album releases. Except for those that were spliced with dialogue (Homecoming for example).I will have to see the tracklistings first before deciding.

Homecoming was one of my favorite tracks (along with Am I Not Merciful? and Now We Are Free), and it was slaughtered on the More Music From CD. Plus it wasn't the film version. Here's hopin this new release will rock.Clayton

Only "Alien", "Blade Runner", and "Legend" have had Director's Cuts; not, as I selfishly typed, "The Duellists". I've heard rumors that Ridley might be considering a DC for "1492"; that would be really good.

Not to spoil the fun--But what irriates me is that GLADIATOR seems to be the ONLY Zimmer score that keeps getting re-releases and/or attention. It's having the same impact that TITANIC had for Horner. GLADIATOR just keeps attracting the mainstream crowd, and yet I know many mainstream fans of GLADIATOR who still call Lisa Gerrard as "Enya." That's downright insulting.
What also sucks is that there's plenty of other Zimmer scores that deserve legitimate expanded releases (BLACK HAWK DOWN, PEARL HARBOR, THE FAN, BATMAN BEGINS, the list goes on) But all we keep getting is GLADIATOR!
Stepping off the soapbox...

Haven't you realized that no one cares when film music fans get insulted--because who listens to that crap, anyway?

Does anyone else find it strange that the lable on the front cover of this CD says: "All the music from the OSCAR winning soundtrack." Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but neither Hans Zimmer nor Lisa Gerrard were given an Oscar for their music to Gladiator. (I know Zimmer got a Golden Globe Award for his music, but not an Oscar.) Perhaps they mean the "Oscar winning film"? Anyway, I think that's a pretty big mistake and maybe another sign of the ignorance that goes into something like this.

Tracklisting is out, and what a rip-off! It's just a repackaging of the first 2 albums. Bummer... looks like I won't be getting this one at all!
