Does anyone have the Television's Greatest Hits CD series on TVT? When the first couple of volumes came out, it was painfully obvious that more than half of the classic themes on each CD were rerecorded versions done in the worst 1980's fashion imaginable. Fast forward to 2005 and they redeemed themselves somewhat by putting out "All-Time Top 100 TV Themes" which finally contained all original versions including, "I Dream Of Jeannie," "Gilligan's Island," "The Dick Van Dyke Show," "Bewitched," etc., but they never redid the original series CDs. I managed to track down a few stray originals - "The Beverly HIllbillies" on CBS - The First 50 Years, "Get Smart" on NBC Must See TV and "Room 222" on Jerry Goldsmith's Ace Eli & Rodger Of The Skies soundtrack CD. That still leaves a bunch of classic themes with no CD reissue of the ORIGINAL TV version (as far as I know) including "The Munsters," "McHale's Navy," "I Love Lucy," "F Troop," "Flipper," "Bonanza," and many others. Does anyone know if the original versions of these are on CD anywhere? I can't stand it when they put out rerecorded versions or the "album" versions in place of the classic originals (stereo is always a dead giveaway). At this stage in the game, it would be as easy as just lifting the soundtrack right off of the DVD! Or maybe they figure they released them once already and nobody noticed the difference...

Your post reminds me of a vinyl album I own that I don't think has ever been on CD: "The TV Theme Song Sing-Along Album." It's a companion record from Rhino to two sing-along books by Jeff Javna. However, it contains song versions of theme songs, like Desi Arnaz' "I Love Lucy," and "The Fishin' Hole" by Andy Griffith, that must've been released as radio singles once upon a time. My fave on the album wass Al Caiola's "Bonanza" because I hadn't known of it before then. I know these are already on CD someplace, but this album compilation itself, no.

Rhino's three volumes of "Tube Tunes" served a great purpose of collecting TV themes, themes that were also extended but original radio single versions but from the 70's and 80's, songs like "The Unknown Stuntman (Theme from The Fall Guy)," "WKRP in Cincinnati," and "Cheers (Where Everybody Knows Your Name)". But the series didn't include one of my favorites of the period, "Theme from Simon & Simon." Meco covered a pop version of it on his "Ewok Celebration," but that isn't on CD either. I own the 45 rpm which has "Rick & AJ's Theme" on the back, a secondary theme heard in the show.

Yep. I have those Lps of those TV themes and never listen to them because of what you said. Those versions and sound are terrible. J.
