Gil took us into his office and showed us some really early CG tests on the house coming to life which were very cool. I couldn’t help but notice a vintage Moog keyboard in his office and asked him if he was a fan of that style of music.

"Oh yeah I love those old synthesizer scores. No one is doing that stuff anymore and that is exactly what we are going for on this film."

When I asked him about the old film score styles of John Carpenter and Alan Howarth his eyes just lit up.

"Exactly, like the band Goblin. Have you ever heard of them?"

Safe to say I was beginning to like him more and more as the conversation went on and felt that much better about him being the director on this project.

Since the topic had turned to music he took us into an office which looked like an old synthesizer museum and introduced us to his composer Douglas Pipes. He met Douglas in film school at UCLA where he scored the short film that got him the directing job. It was nice to see that Gil remained loyal to his film school buddy and brought him along for the ride.

Pipes also has a web site which, unless I am doing something wrong, doesn't appear to be fully functional yet.

Interesting though that Varese states it's symphonic.

I believe Jeremy Soule also calls his synth music "symphonic" as well.
