He's obviously a newcomer; and the animated film Monster House seems to be his first big movie score. I'm intrigued with the movie and I hope it's a fun ride. Here's an interesting article from Ain't It Cool News about the music in the film.http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=23836
Of note: It seems that Harry Knowles site is growing up just a little by adding these movie score articles from a fellow by the codename "ScoreKeeper"; I always enjoy them as they are a welcome refresher from some of the ridiculousness that he employs there.

What a great read. Glad this critic appreciates good film scores. This makes me want to see this movie just to hear the score.

Yes, but ScoreKeeper also wrote this huge article talking about Danny Elfman's contribution to NACHO LIBRE, saying that Elfman was a genius by disguising his music as old Mexican folk songs and source music, etc.I think it was overselling it a bit, and got a lot of people excited about a score that didn't really leave much of an impression -- at least not on me, and I'm a HUGE Elfman fan!
In addition, clearly he didn't know that some of Elfman's music had been removed from the film and replaced by the very thing he was describing.
Scorekeeper seems very well informed, but also a bit overzealous to the point where I'm not sure if I should take all the hype he tries to build around certain film scores seriously.
I'm glad that a "new guy" got on a project like MONSTER HOUSE (instead of the same 20 or 30 people who seem to wind up scoring everything), but I'll wait until I actually hear some of the music before going out of my skull with excitment.

That article is interesting in that writer manages not to say a SINGLE thing about the music. But we have soundtrack.net and fsmonline for that. I'm looking forward to the movie and score.

I had heard from another thread here (which came from an interview with Pipes) that the score was supposed to be all, or mostly, synthesizer (I paraphrase the composer: "like a Goblin score for Argento"), but the clip of the film I saw on TV was orchestral. With all of the glow this has received from the reviewer above, I'm almost expecting something along the lines of Broughton's wonderful "Monster Squad" score...maybe crossed with "Suspiria." I do look forward to clips.

I just got my copy of Douglas Pipes' score to Trick 'r Treat. It's a pretty enjoyable score for a horror film. Reminds me of Goldsmith and Elfman. I really hope this guy gets some more assignments in the near future.
