I wasn't very impressed with the season one disc. Of course I've never seen the show.

And a new Jablonsky horror score! I was terribly disappointed when his Amityville Horror score didn't get a release (but I'm holding out hope that La La Land might add it to their horror collection some day, I'm looking at you MV!) and his first TCSM score was the very definition of dark and foreboding sound-design-influenced music. I can't wait for either discs; hopefully Giacchino's new Lost score features both more action/suspense cues and more individual thematic cues rather than the "Fate" theme every other track.

Just finished watching Lost season 2 and it certainly isn't better or as good as season 1, but the opening and closing episodes are impressive (show-wise, not musically), to say the least. The only time it seems that Giacchino rose to the occassion happened when he decided to use brass in his action music (couldn't tell you what episode), and it made for some exciting and fresh writing on his part. Other than that one cue, though, the score is the same boring thang we heard in season 1. His lack of a range of themes on the show is suprising given the show's content. The John Locke theme is still the best part of his score and I'm glad it's used infrequently; but those annoying agitated strings he continues to use when there's supposed to be something suspenseful happening is insanely bothersome (there's a million different ways to say "scary!", Michael, use another!).
Michael Gaicchino's scoring for television is below sub-par when held up against the two best, Bear McCreary on Battlestar Galactica and Joel Goldsmith on Stargate Atlantis.

I really hope one of those cues is the one that underscored the blowing of the hatch from Desmond's perspective. The track time fits 2, 4, or 5...
