    I see this at amazon:
    http://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-James-Bond-Collection/dp/B000I2IQHY/

Peter, do you konw anytihng about this title?

Its 39.99, so I'm guessing it a 4 cd set. At first when i saw this listed at KOCH's Silva website, that it was simply a US release date for this already-out UK release: http://www.silvascreen.co.uk/master.cfm?SilvaCode=SILCD1217&id=4543

Then tonight, I saw the $40 price tag and noticed that the catalog numbers are differenet--SIL-CD-1212 for this one 1217 for the UK one.

Now normally, I wouldn't be all that excited about yet another James Bond compilation from Silva Screen...However...their 2003 release (which I do enjoy), was released in these plastic sleeves as opposed to one of those Clamp-Shell 4 CD boxes...Even if the contents are identical, I will snatch this up (once it ends on the used/cut-out market) simply cause those jewel boxes work better for me than the cheap 2003 packaging.

Although I have all of the remastered Capitol versions of all Barry's scores, as well as Kamen's, Serra's, and Arnold's Bond music, I was given the '94 Silva compilation as a present and it's a perfect album in my opinion. I'll put this on my Christmas list so that I won't feel bad for purchasing another James Bond thing I don't need.

I don't have any official news, but your guess about it being a reissue of the 4CD box from 2002 is right, but likely with slight alterations (as is always the case... whether it be content or packaging).

I will joke that Silva's finally getting around to adding music from Die Another Day into their Bond comps, but the timing is just right to miss including the newest Casino Royale! Spot on, Silva.

    Five new tracks:

    - Die Another Day
    - Going Down Together
    - Never Say Never Again
    - The Look Of Love
    - Casino Royale

and the artwork is better IMO

Wow, artwork seems to resemble another one of theirs (which is better... the original SSD 1034 artwork before this current redo was the worst thing I've nearly ever seen).

And I wonder... these new Casino Royale tracks tacked on (including "The Look of Love")... from the new film? I would be impressed.

But I'm losing faith fast. OK, so Silva made a mistake leaving out Never Say Never Again the first time around (if they didn't, it doesn't need to be included this time around). But now that they are adding it, it's tacked on at the end of disc 4? It would be at home tacked on at the end of disc 3 to keep the chronology. So, I am again left unimpressed by Silva's cheapness. It would cost money to do it right, which obviously they aren't interested in!

There's a track called "The Look of Love" here. Maybe it's a re-recording of that?

It's probably Silva's own instrumental version of the classic song from the 1967 film. I haven't kept up enough with Bond to know what's happening with that song as it relates to the new movie (I would think some modern popchik cover is the go-ahead answer, but this isn't something Silva would include in their set anyway).

It looks to me like Silva's thrown something together to make sure it's on shelves and getting all the benefit of being a "new release" when the new movie hits theaters. Smart business marketing move, but still rings hollow for real fans.

Furthermore, missing from the 2002 release and STILL missing from this upcoming release is three tracks that were on SSD 1034:
    - 007 from From Russia With Love
    - On Her Majesty's Secret Service/A View To A Kill - Suite
    - The Living Daylights - Suite

They can still win me over if they use the kind of box they do for all their other 4 cd box sets.

There has to be something wrong when I can order this new set *IMPORTED* from Silva America to Amazon UK back to me in the US for only $24 plus shipping.

    Not that I'm complaining

Got a response from James Fizpatrick:

    quote:
    Hi TJ,

Silva have done 2 BOND re-compilations of compilations!!!

THere is BOND ROYALE which has just the main themes from all the BOND films

plus THE ULTIMATE BOND which is a re-issue of the 4 CD Set THE JAMES BOND COLLECTION, traditional clamp shell packaging, plus 5 additional new teacks:
    "Die Another Day"
    "Going Down Together" from DAD
    "Never Say Never Again"
"The Look of Love" from CASINO ROYALE
    and
    "Casino Royale".

Unfortunately Silva are not really interested in doing completely new recordings, just a few new themes every once in a while. That's
probably the main reason for me going freelance as I am very busy with my producing
and contracting for other labels and the occasional recording for Tadlow Music.

    All the best
    James

Send our thanks to James for the clarification, TJ. So I'm under the understanding that these are just the licsensed tracks from the Capitol recordings (hopefully the remasters) and the later labels with Serra's and Arnold's music; am I correct?

No, this is a re-issue of the James Bond Collection (see Peter's link above)

which in and of itself was a repackaging of Bond Back In Action Vol 1 and 2 and the Essential James Bond plus some new tracks.

They are all performed by the City of Prague Philharmonic conducted by Nic Raine (though someone else may have conducted the five new tracks.)

If I remember correctly, some of the tracks were previously unreleased in any form when they were recorded in the late 90s, but they might be on the expanded remasters. I don't know. I'm not a big enough Bond fan to have all the originals.
