Wow, this is one time I think the Oscar noms are going to be completely different from the Golden Globes noms. Crazy!I've not heard of Nomad, nope. Lalaland better release it!

I am extremely happy to see Mansell's Fountain up. I thought it was the best score of the year, and the best score in a long time for that matter, just I as thought the movie was both of those as well.

Nomad is an historical epic set in 18th-century Kazakhstan. Supposedly it was initially greenlighted by the president of Kazakhstan as a way to promote the country internationally. The Weinsteins are releasing it in the US in January (after demanding more battle scenes and a more focal love story, of course). I had no idea Siliotto scored it, but that's an interesting choice. If not LaLaLand, it sounds like the kind of thing Mellowdrama would put out. There's a five-minute clip on YouTube from the Russian dub:

I am fully aware that the Golden Globes and Oscars continually snub action scores, but I was still holding on to a hope that X-Men 3 would get nominated. I think that score, though clichéd, demonstrated some of the most interesting and intelligent writing of the year.Oh... where is The Departed?!?
That score was great too! Maybe it'll get an Oscar nod instead. But I WAS happy that The Fountain got a nomination! Clint Mansell's first?

[B]Replace Santaolalla with Shore's The Departed score and change the rules to allow six nominees (either Isham's The Black Dahlia or T. Newman's The Good German will suit fine) and we have an interesting list of choices.
I really enjoy Siliotto's score for the dismal The Punisher film from a few years back; it's good to see him get interesting and challenging projects that earn him pedigree. Here's looking forward to some type of US release.

If you haven't heard them, you might also want to check out Siliotto's scores to La Corsa Dell'Innocente and Fluke, both of which I prefer to his Punisher score. Fluke in particular is well worth trying to track down, the score is wonderful. Based on everything I've heard from Siliotto so far, I'll definitely buy Nomad if it gets a CD release.NP: Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus (Carter Burwell)

Its probably going to be Babel since thats the only score nominated for a movie thats nominated for best picture.I definetely think Mansell's Fountain deserves to win though!

That's exactly the thinking I was... thinking. But I hope it's not the case before the night is over.I won't be unhappy if Painted Veil gets it. I will if Zimmer or Gustavo do.

Hooray! Desplat gets to take one home tonight!Too bad for Santaolalla; I'm sure he felt like a lock after stunning the world by upsetting us at the Oscars last year. Desplat rightly deserves his; he can actually compose music . . . and orchestrate it, and conduct it. And he's lucky that it all sounds good.
