    May 22nd 2007.

    Music by Zimmy and Co.

The trailer is very fun...all action...all the time! This movie looks fun. Some tasty CG effects to boot.

People are still looking forward to Zimmer's score for the third picture after that lackluster outing for Dead Man's Chest? As much as I'm anticipating it (well, the film mostly), I don't see Zimmer expanding much upon it. I wish Verbinski had stuck with Silvestri from the get-go. Beggars can't be choosers.

Speaking of Zimmer and high profile sequels: I've been hearing rumors that he and JNH are really wanting to flesh out a new theme for The Dark Knight? Any early word on this? Maybe they might want to revisit that theme that Zimmer claimed they dumped.

    Andrew,

    That's correct. (TDK)

Also, Silvestri was outed by Jerry and co. It's been said that Jerry wanted Zimmer and Co all along.

Thanks Brian; I'm only hoping for the best. I do, however, think that David Julyan is more than qualified to take over. His work with Nolan in the past and the similar angle that his score for The Prestige could create a solid score. Just let him go free with the themes. His work on Insomnia and The Descent sets a good course for thematic material.

After doing some more digging, Silvestri was not outed. There was a chat and he left the project. He never wrote a note of score for "Pirates 1"

    Sorry for the rumorish post.

David Julyan for a pirate movie?! How about Christopher Gordon, Danny Elfman, or Don Davis (a la Chateau Swashbuckling from Matrix Reloaded).

Haha, exactly Michael. Julyan would be ace for an EPIC Pirate movie. Just imagine that drone!

Now Don Davis? That would be fantastic. Bring me an update of Sinbad with Davis behind the podium conducting the Hollywood Studio Symphony and the Hollywood Film Chorale; hold the side of Juno Reactor, please.

I don't really care for either of the Pirates scores, but am hopeful this third movie will bring something good from Hans Zimmer (I won't be a doom-sayer or a praiser on this one); the only tracks that stand out to me from the two previous outings are "Jack Sparrow" and "The Kraken" from Dead Man's Chest... the first score just sounds stupid (there's no more intelligent way to put it other than that).

macuser, there's a reason many people don't like this individual. Case in point: his post doesn't make sense; I'd enjoy the smug response he'll give, too, so let's have it, Ryan.

I guess not being glued to this msg board 24/7 makes me smug! I didn't see macuser's reply to my post.

I posted all the info that I have on these POTC releases. I don't have anymore info. If I did I would have shared. Other people know about these albums, but so far I'm the only one to come out and say something and this is the level of gratitude I get.

    Come on...

Ryan, pray tell why are you the only one who wants to come out with the information? For me, the info is a waste of time until it's truly retail industry news. But if other people know about it and only one person wants to talk about it, it's like the prospect of talking about it means the Gulag has you in their site. Lame.

Let's be honest all the way, can't we?

IMO, The 2nd was night and day from the 1st. The 1st had nothing as intense as "The Kraken".

The 1st is terrible: It's just a rehash of other Hans Zimmer scores like Black Hawk Down, The Rock, Drop Zone, and Gladiator. Sadly, Zimmer revists this material a little in the 2nd score during the action-heavy "Wheel Of Fortune," but other than that, tracks like "Jack Sparrow" and "The Kraken" (the only good tracks, IMO, on the 2nd) pound the POTC 1 music into minced meat.

It's "nice" to see that people are still interested in the co-composer thing, which is just about as dead as "Horner-bashing." Gee wizz, I don't see anyone here bitching about a film with 4 or 5 screenwriters attached to it and whinning about "who wrote what!?"
