Why would Doug or Howard be bothered by people looking for the best price?
Uhm, that's how everybody usually shops.

I actually posted on Amazon the other day about buying the set here. So far no slap on the wrist from them about sending people over to a different site to order the set from...YET!!! I also did what I could to steer people away from B&N too. What can I say Peter, I like it here.[Message edited by BattleToTheEnd on 10-09-2007]

Peter, I understand where you are coming from, but this is a capitalistic society we are living in. I feel that as long as I am buying the set legally from a store and not illegally downloading the music than it shouldn't matter. Sorry, just my $.02.-Chad

I have to agree with Peter. I'm not able to order from the site because I don't have the means (I only use cash right now) but there comes a point when it just seems like people want a whole lot for nothing. With the tremendous amount of stellar work that goes into these boxsets and with all of the people involved in creating this high quality product they really are worth more than $40 or $50 dollars, especially brand new. Smaller independent sites like this one (or you local independent music shop) deserve your dollars more than large conglomerates like B&N or Amazon because they can often acquire out-of-the-way, obscure albums that you can't find any where else.Capitalism is fine. But sometimes I think it spoils people, causing them to think that they should always be able to get high quality products on the cheap. It costs a lot of money, time and energy to make good things (like this LOTR CR box set) and very rarely do companies profit from creating elaborate boxset film scores since most people don't care about them. It shouldn't be overly expensive but neither should it be inexpensive.

My two cents:why should someone who forked up around 75 bucks for three TTT CDs now have problems with paying 60- 70 bucks for four ROTK CDs?
I'd normally think twice about releases and the intentions behind them with that kind of price tag (think PotC), but in this case, you don't even need to think once.

The point isn't price or the right to buy where you want. The point is, some here are making a big deal about buying from Peter's competitors and Peter's being pretty darn nice about letting you do it. Frankly, (and I am nothing if not frank), it's a bit classless. I bought from other sites for CR-FOTR and CR-TTT. But I didn't go on about it here. There's a time and a place for everything. And boy would I love to see some discussion besides how much it costs and how many seconds are left.

Yes, of course, no argument there.
Peter said it was a bit of a shame that so much effort and love has gone into these releases, and people talk about where to get it the cheapest.
I just supported that by saying the same people bought less discs for more money, so they should have no problem with paying the "official" price, since it's more discs for less money.By the way, is there an Andrew Joseph Croasmun on this board?

I think that's what got me thinking about my post about this whole "where can we find it cheapest" thing. And no, I don't intend to ruffle feathers or force anyone feel guilty about not buying it from here. People are free to do as they please, but there is something in what I posted that I'd consider. Money is just money.... you can't take that anywhere with you once you're dead. All you have left is your soul, and I'm a big thinker that subscribes to the notion that the music we listen to clearly shapes the health of our souls. All this talk of saving, what, $20 bucks... or even $50, is capitalistic and temporal, yes, but far from the true worth of things. It's gonna be a long four weeks!

I think there is no probleme for those who are living in U.S.A. they will have the ROTK CR faster as it's possible (only a change of the real date release is able to delay this fact and if it will happen no purchase's strategy will be able to bypass this) and for the price ! one or two or ..., the few dollar more or less than the $60 The ROTK-CR seem to cost at the release time have no a great importance I think !!But for those who live oversea this is not the same thing : there are many parameters to expect and for me the goal is first to have it faster and with a no unreasonable price : $114 I can't it's 190% of 60$ .
and in the past years and this year the european sellers have delay their release, up the price or abandonned to sell it since the FOTR-CR.And I can talk of this here in this forum, whatever MM think of this (In fact MM let his member talk of what they want even of the other sellers) because MM doesn't sell outside the USA in a normal way.

This may seem random, but what is everybody looking forward to most in this release?I'm really excited about the various statements of the "Nature's Reclamation" theme (which didn't appear on the OST at all). On this topic, the complete Pelennor Fields sequence is sure to be astounding.
Plus, just about every track heard on the OST had music missing, and it'll be awesome to finally hear the pieces in their entirety (Minas Morgul, Shelob's Lair and The Black Gate to name a few).
On the subject of price, I'm surprised that it is as low as it is. I'm particularly grateful to whomever decided that the price wouldn't increase from TTT (especially with the extra disc).

It's true.
it's even cheaper of 1 dollars (more than 50 cents)

I am waiting for the music of the fall of Osgiliath, the debut when orcs go through the Andui Rivers. And the music goes suddenly stronger and stronger after. I like especially how the music of H.S. know to be progressive like in "Balin's Tomb" or decreasing before to be increasing like in "Parth Gallen" while something of the “five beat pattern” is in the music before it is giving in full sound and rhythm after the horn of Gondor (a silence in the CR) is heard. But in the film there is a cut for the lites of the beacon of Minas Tirith and for the rohirrims leaving Edoras.
Does the cut is still in the ROTK C.R?
Or there is another solution like to make a track for each part with maybe an edition for a best following between them and after listen the tracks as we want, Doug Adams? And I submit my tracks list!!

Since we're looking for new topics: I must admit I find it funny that some people here are abstaining from listening to Return of the King until the Complete Recordings come out.For me, it's the opposite. I suppose that Return of the King has always been my favourite of the three original soundtrack CDs - although of course I love them all for different reasons too. As such, I'm even more excited this year than I was last year. But far from abstaining, I have been listening to the OST more and more the past few weeks: partly so I can try to imagine how great it's going to be to hear the full album (although frankly I can't imagine), and partly to make sure I'm completely familiar with the original CD, so that I can hear what the "new" music is easily. (Actually I'm sure I already know it well enough, so maybe that's just an excuse after all!)
It's hard for me to say what parts I'm most looking forward to, because I don't watch the films often (two or three times at the movies and twice for each extended DVD so far), so I'm not really familiar with the music other than the soundtrack CDs. (I don't want to overwatch the films and lose their emotional impact...)
But at a guess:
- The lighting of the beacons scene.
- The whole Pelennor Fields suite.
- Everything with Gollum, from the alternate beginning music (which I'm glad they faded out of the film but want to hear nonetheless) to his appearances with the hobbits and final doom. I love Gollum's themes and the History of the Ring theme!
- Minas Morgul. Again I'm not sure if there is anything new, though.
- The whole ending in its entirety. I'm sure there must be new bits in here somewhere, and I'm looking forward to hearing it all in proper sequence.
- The extra songs from the fan club credits. This is perhaps the part I'm least familiar with of all the movies.
It seems my over-riding theme is that I just don't know where the "new" music is going to come in - but then that makes it even more exciting.

PS - On another note, they finally added it to Amazon.co.jp. I would love to have been able to support this site by buying it from Peter, but it simply was not an option due to my location. Sorry Peter!

Did Doug say when the ROTK:CR podcast would be up? I'm thinking release day, but does anyone think it'll be out earlier than that? And talking about padcasts, does The Ride of the Rohirrim really end the way it does on the teaser podcast? I'm not so sure about it. What happens in the movie? I'm "abstaining" from all things ROTK till I get the CR so I "can't" pop-up in the DVDs and check out the music out there.

music I'm looking forward to:A lot of this is available elsewhere, especially from the Battle For Middle-earth soundtrack. But it will be nice to get it in a complete suite of everything else.
The Charge of the Rohirrim (which is perhaps the number one request of people on other boards).
The Death of Theoden.
The sung Fellowship that I've wanted since my first viewing of ROTK.
It may be hard to improve on the OST's track, Return of the King.... it's pretty inclusive. But if they did, that could push me over the edge in bliss.
I'm interested to see what they do with Sissel's song. Where will it go. There was discussion of Use Well the Days. Would that make it into the CR or wait for the rarities disc. If it's in the CR how will they place it? And Bilbo's Song... Do they tack that on after the 'finale' music or put it somewhere else or put it on the rarities disc?
And what strikes me with each CR release is music I, all of a sudden, pay attention to. What is that? I ask. I usually find it's been there all along but action or dialog on screen has kept it from gaining my attention. I love finding those new treasures.
And I loved the unused coney music. What a delight. Will anything tickle me to that extent in ROTK. I have to tell you, I went in to extract a soundclip of that scene from the movie (to mix with the music) and there's a noise that Gollum/Andy makes as he spits out those coneys that just cracks me up every time. It is outrageous.

I was just listening back to the TTT:CR FSM podcasts from last year and they actually talk a bit about the RotK:CR too.One of the things I had forgotten about is the restoration of the Seduction Of The Ring theme in the Mt. Doom sequence. Should be great! There's also mention of a secondary Ringwraiths theme which should make an appearance.
I'm also looking forward to the Pelennor Fields, the Shelob piece, and the beautiful end-credits material.

I read carefully and I hear him saying that they should get included at some point but I didn't hear him guarantee it and I certainly didn't hear him guarantee they'd be presented in the CR-ROTK. But perhaps he said something more direct in another post. The one I quote is here: http://www.moviemusic.com/mb/Forum1/HTML/015404-9.html
The rarities disc is looking quite, quite full right now… There’s just a mountain of material we proposing for this. As is pointed out below, the fan credits are already out there in the world… in good sound to boot. It’s probably unlikely that we’ll be able to / inclined to dedicate disc space to something that’s essentially a redundant presentation. However, pieces such as Sissel’s song, Bilbo’s Song, which only appear in the fan scroll music will certainly need to be presented. (As will Use Well The Days, as Magpie adroitly notes.)To be honest, I'm not sure how well Use Well the Days fits on the CR-FOTR. Or, for that matter, Bilbo's Song. What I mean is, the thing I love most about any well produced soundtrack is: it creates an emotional arc. It tells an aural story that follows a well told (one hopes) visual story. The story of LOTR moves from the despair of the Crack of Doom, to the eucatastrophe of the eagles, to the relief of Ithilien, to the triumph of the coronation, to the poignant return to the Shire, to the goodbyes of the Grey Havens, and the final End of Sam's return. (I get chills just thinking about this... honest) Into the West is worked into that arc with a choice of two final endings... the one found on the OST and the one heard in the movie.
Do we face that end only to hear, "But wait... there's more." with Bilbo's Song. And then again, with Use Well the Days. I love both of them but where do they fit in the arc. I'm not saying they shouldn't be there but only, if they are there, I'm curious how they (meaning Shore & Co.) are going to make it work within the arc. If they're going to just tack the pieces onto the end, after we've already been given our end, I personally can wait till the rarities discs comes to get them.

Exactly my thoughts Magpie, concerning the fact that the music is supposed to tell the tale of The Lord of the Rings and Into The West if the ending of that tale.I liked the way Use Well The Days was presented on the extra DVD with those very poignant visuals. There's this silence as a few lines of text introduces you to the song and then it begins. It draws you in very well and in my little mind, I'm imagining the music presented on the rarities/multimedia discs in much the same way (though I'm sure I'll be bowled over by what they come up with if Doug's enthusiasm is any indication of what we're gonna get )
On the other hand, concerning Bilbo's Song, I'd MUCH RATHER PREFER that they present it on The Hobbit: The Complete Recordings
Okay sorry, I got carried away But that song is one exalted piece of music and it's gotta be accompanied by some really great visuals.

I think at this time you should stay in the theatre and sing the song "into the West"
The Lyrics of this song are easy to determine by you're own ears and to learn I think !!but maybe you were afraid about you're voice seeming to the bird of whom you bear the name !!

Oh... make no mistake, I sit in the theater till the very end. I'm speaking a bit metaphorically. There were those of us who ate, drank, and slept LOTR. I had a core group of friends that were motivated primarily out of love of the books, but we loved the movies too and the movies kept the excitement ramped up and the community active. With the end of the movies, it was a bit like saying "go on... get a life already". (And most people did. Here I am, still happily immersed in LOTR.) Those who have read certain comments of mine on my website know how I feel about endings. That door closing hits me hard every time.AND... speaking of the Hobbit, you might want to check out the latest news at http://www.theonering.net/index.stat
I don't get overly worked up over The Hobbit. I'd love to see it made but my future life's happiness doesn't rest on whether it does or not. But there are some exciting responses from NewLine execs in regards to the progress of PJ & The Hobbit.posted 10-10-2007 10:04 AM PT (US) Magpie

A soundtrack fan who has been lurking on these boards approached Earl, who in turn approached me, with an extensive analysis of the ROTK movie soundtrack in regards to where music is heard, where no music is heard, or where music is replaced by sound effects. He's also made some speculation about how the cues might be grouped in tracks.I agreed to host his work on my site and the master page can be found here:
http://www.geocities.com/magpie930/MISC_PAGES/TRouiller/ROTKmovieanalysis.htmThe author, Thomas, has registered as a forum member and should post here soon. I've delayed getting this up as I worked on other things on my site but if I don't get it up soon, it won't be of much us to anyone. For the moment, it's not properly linked into the navigation of my site but, through that url above and the use of your back button, you should be fine for the moment.
Thomas also hasn't had a chance to proof this page since it's gone up so I hope there are no glaring errors on my part.
Questions regarding the content should be directed to Thomas, who... as I said.. should be by shortly. Issues with web/html can be directed privately to me.

For the Hobbit that seem going to a near outcome with a official announce of the beggining of something about the movies.I hope really for a scene will come to be on screen that is Gandalf against Sauron at Dol Guldur. Legolas and Gimli as neighbour of Mirkwood and Aragorn as a friend of Gandalf are there and made an appearances. with the décor disigned by Allan Lee or John Howe and of course with the Music of HOWARD SHORE !
Thus a lot of those who deserve to be brought up to the World of Tolkien will be there and gathered. (it's impossible they have all the actors of the LOTR in The HOBBIT. it's a pity that Miranda Otto shouldn't be in the Movies)
It's impossible that Legolas won't be in the Hobbit a lot of girls of my country who often said "Legolas il est trop beau" = "Legolas he is so much beautifull" will be disappointed.

The Fourth Age of Gondor theme IS meant to play under the fall of the tower. It is supposed to be there. However, the version you hear in the film IS tracked in… [...] There is, however, a setting of this theme used in Shore’s original composition, a setting you’ve not heard before. It’s not radically different, compositionally, but the music moves in and out of the theme much more gracefully. Well, I feel like I made a cardinal sin here...In retrospect, I acknowledge that my post about "my conditions" for shopping here couldn't have come with the appropriate bit of humour I honestly intended to come with it. I really should have asked Mr Kelly to which conditions he could agree and to which he couldn't. And I should not have done it in such a flagrantly pompous way. Again, I must apologize for my insolence.
I haven't placed any order or pre-order yet. Anywhere. Maybe I'll wait until a few days before Christmas, because that is the earliest time I can and want to listen to it, not in the weeks of desperately trying to finish my thesis when I most certainly won't be able to enjoy the music.
Do I want to support Mr Kelly and his site by shopping here? Absolutely, and the same goes for Intrada, FSM and SAE. And whenever possible, I will do so.
However, and this obviously counts quite a lot for me, I am still a student (approaching the end of it, thank God!). I have, on average, around $150 a month for food, bus tickets and sundry expenses (rent not included). At the moment, RotK:CR costs about $68 from Amazon.de. I get more or less the same deal for the same price from Moviemusic.com, IF the thing goes through German customs unnoted. Which it usually does, if it's declared as a gift under customs value (around $30, I think).
Should it, however, get caught by Customs, they will open it, see the invoice, and apply 19% VAT + about 5% customs tax on it. This would put it somewhere between $85 and $90, and as such, more expensive than I willing to pay.
You may think that $20 this way or that don't matter, but I most certainly do. Mr Kelly apparently think along the same lines, so I definitely understand why he'd rather not do this. And I just as well understand his righteous frustration at people, including me, discussing to shop at another place.
Trying to get the cheapest deal and trying to save money are, for me at least, two different pairs of shoes. If you wanna "mark" me for this (for lack of a better term), feel free to do so.
Right, back to my papers and work, which is more important even than RotK:CR at the moment.
Christian (sorry for any grammatical bloopers, but I don't have time to proof-read today)

She was born in a 14th February like me ! that is the Lover's day in my Country (La Saint valentin) I love her... (from afar of Course)She was at the French TV before summer
and there were some extracts of her singing while her opera. I think before she has always this grave tone in her voice and found that her voice had a normal balance for a women. In the ROTK she sing a song while the coronation of Aragorn, that is the same in the FOTR (GIVE UP TO THE HALFLING) but sung by a other singer with almost an adolescent voice. I find that if the voices of Renée Fleming have been choseen like this, is to show the new maturity of Arwen*. And if for the eagles or for gollum triumphing with the ring the voice is the same it was for the unity of the whole performance or/and they think this voice fit perfectly in the world of the movie (it's what I think)*The voices for the Gilraen's Song have almost the same tone: this is maybe the source of this fact
Do you agree with me Doug ?

I'm looking forward to hearing:The Charge of the Rohirrim (no surprise there)
The Houses of HealingWhen I bought the ROTK:OST I fully expected the music from Charge of the Rohirrim to be on it. It seemed like a logical thing to have such an important piece on the OST because it's a major part of the story arc of cooperation between the kingdoms of Gondor and Rohan. Especially after having heard the music for The Lighting of the Beacons, The Charge is the logical conclusion to this part of the story and it was terribly disappointing when it was nowhere to be found on the OST.
But I suppose having it on the CR will make hearing it all that much sweeter.

I mostly agree with this too, but the Bilbo's song+Credits will be a very tasty epilogue for me!posted 10-10-2007 11:15 PM PT (US) PeterK

Christian, you've made no cardinal sin. I appreciate you taking the time to express yourself... none of what you asked was offensive in the least. I only feel my honest answer to your request would be received better on both ends of the stick. I'm all for customer service, but lines need to be drawn for the sake of my sanity and the business!P.S. People go without food for a while if it's over something they really need. So, what's $20? Missing two meals? I'm just kidding....

Hi everyone! This post only serves as an introduction but I intend to place some comments later...
I am new member but in fact it's been months that I read your discussions about Mr. Shore's Great Contribution to filmmusic.
I must say that your forum is one of the most interesting I have ever read. And the developpements here are intelligent, constructive and very positive.I have also to say that I have been in contact with Earl and Magpie for a couple of weeks now and that they were really kind and welcoming. We were discussing about the work I have done following the release of TTT:CR and concerning the upcoming release of ROTK:CR which we are all waiting. I wanted to share my small contribution with you all and discuss about it. Thanks to Magpie, it is now possible. Don't hesitate to comment on it.
That work is specifically an analysis of the music within the movie, how the themes match the action. My intention was also to have a measurement of the duration of the soundtrack and the gaps between music cues as well.Recently, I have been very much pleased to hear a short excerpt of ROTK:CR in the podcast. I guessed rightly that at the end of this sequence (the Departure from Edoras sequence, which I called "Oaths to fulfill"), the track should end, although in the film, it merges with the "Retreat from Osgiliath." That may promise a slighly longer version of that piece...
That's it for now. I have got to go to work. It is 9 AM here in France.
I can't put a full stop to this post without saying that music has no border and that I am really thankful for the work initiated by Mr. Jackson, Mr. Shore, Mr. Adams and continued by so many folks around the world today.
I'll just say "Au revoir." Talk to you very soon.
Thomas R.

To Dambedir: what? Run that by me once more, please. To Mr Kelly: $20 these days equal about 4 days of food for me... Sounds dramatic, but in reality is just quite boring.

Anyhoo...The Hobbit seems to be getting more real by the day, which is just cool beans.
Music I'm looking forward to (five pieces, ranked):
-For Frodo (it would appear that Mr Shore remembered my asking him if we'd get a fully fledged choral reading of the Fellowship theme in RotK)
-The Horns of Rohan (even after having listened to the piece like 2000 times, I still get scoregasms from it!)
-"They Called Us Out to Fight" (sequence at the end of DVD 1, with Gandalf in full-battle mode,; there's some superb lower brass work)
-the complete Battle of Osgiliath sequence
-the Wagner tribute at the end, this time swelling to a glorious finish instead of quietly sailing away as on the OST

I won't !
There is no need. it's only a joke
and there is enough of useless posts about the price of the ROTK-CR. because I've done one post on this subject was enought to those who want understand.
And for My joke I think it was clear that is a joke. I don't think there is enough trust on a forum for someone send money to an other: not Only between a pseudonym to a pseudonym . Only a real sellers market as a professional is able to do it.At this subject:
Are there still some websites gathering many buyer on one item to down the price ?[Message edited by dambedir on 10-11-2007]

Finally Amazon.uk has the CR set available! I was beginning to wonder if it would appear at all. And the price is not an issue for me so I can pay few extra EUROs for the set. And this really is one of those rare things I am willing to pay such large amounts as I know it will totally be worth every penny (or cent). And I am also a student but I am so lucky I had a job this summer so I have some extra money to spend on this music. And few favourite moments which I am most anxious to hear on the CR (in no particular order):
1)Nature's Reclamation in its various guises (The Rohirrim ride from Edoras, The Charge of the Rohirrim, "The Eagles Are Coming!"
2)The Mount Doom/Black Gate/Destruction of the Ring sequence: Pure choral and orchestral bliss.Everyone's favourite
3)Pelennor Fields/Eowyn VS the Witch King
4)The Mordor theme in its full dark glory!
And the brilliant juxtaposition of the good and evil themes throughout the score.posted 10-11-2007 03:14 AM PT (US) Sid2000
