After spending a while...and I do mean a while, I was lucky enough to find one at a CD store near my parents house. It had been sitting there for 5 months the inventory guys said, so I think its even a first pressing,But I hope for everyone who doesn't have it that it comes out again.

Unfortunately this only news is that there's no new news. I've added an update to the Blog's FAQ which states, in short, that the set is not discontinued or cancelled. We don't know what the current hang-up is with the label, but don't start shelling out to eBay scammers... it'll be back sooner or later.
Sorry I don't have more details, but this is all I know.

Thanks for the info Doug. It's good to know though that these aren't discontinued or canceled. I will hold out and wait hoping that Reprise does get another pressing going soon.

>>>Thanks for the info Doug. It's good to know though that these aren't discontinued or canceled. I will hold out and wait hoping that Reprise does get another pressing going soon.>>>Believe me, we all hope so too! A TON of work went into this project, and its unfortunate that it's been made a victim of its own popularity. But again, I'm told that there's no cause for alarm, and that it'll be back on shelves soon.
I think I've mentioned this before, but if not: It's important to note that Howard retained the rights to every element in this project. If there are problems with the record label (and I'm not suggesting there are, just saying...) he'll always be able to put it out through another company, or simply distribute it himself. So one way or the other, there's no chance that this will disappear without a trace. Don't give in to the allure of eBay! (And, from my standpoint, I'd be happy to see people stay away from iTunes as well, but I'm obviously very, very biased!)

It's back in stock on at least some on-line retailers, according to Doug's blog. Also for those who are interested, the LOTR Symphony performance by the St. Louis Symphony goes on-sale to the public on June 16. There will be 2 performances, Sept. 19 and 20 (a Friday and Saturday).

Weird stuff. This 3CD Trilogy released in late 2003 was a limited edition that sold out after 3 or 4 months, but now 4 years later, here it comes again!http://www.moviemusic.com/soundtrack/lordoftheringstrilogy

Peter, I got one of those for Christmas this past year, so they can't all have been sold. Go figure.

Since 2003, the 3CD-set always was and still is available in numerous shops in Austria - and that's saying something, for the CR never hit the shelves here!
They were also selling dozens of them in Lucerne after the FotR-live-performances.Are you sure, that this was/is a limited edition??
Speaking of FotR-live: There will be a performance in Krakow, Poland, on May 31st. Yay! I'm so gonna be there! :-)

It was a limited edition. Gone from regular suppliers. Sold my last one in March 2004 and have been keeping a waiting list since, and actively searched for a few copies with American distributors for a few customers. It's nice to see this will be available again, hopefully with all the cards like the original run. I don't see it being called a limited edition any longer, which is good... although with the complete discs available, who even needs this one anyway?

Well, there are few alternate versions of the songs on those discs.

Alternate versions of some pieces? Bah, once the rarities are out, those small alternates will pale.

My belief is that for those who want all the available music, there will remain certain versions of cues only available on the OST CDs (the Theatrical Version of "The Great River" from FOTR, for example). In other words, true completists shouldn't plan on ditching their original discs anytime soon!

Umm, sad but here's the warning: LOTR Two Towers complete is now gone, as of yesterday. Find it somewhere if you've been wanting to get it. Hopefully it will be back one day, but it's on the same path as LOTR ROTK from where I sit.posted 05-07-2008 09:12 PM PT (US) NeoVoyager

Damn it, I really don't want to have to resort to downloading all three of these scores... I really hope they get all three back in stock soon!

Sad, but not unexpected.Luckily, Howard Shore owns the right of all three, so it's in his hands, and not in some company's.

I could be an evil capitalist and pick up the copy standing around at Satyr Filmwelt, then sell it on eBay for a horrendous sum...I'm getting worried about Doug's book though.

It's been confirmed that you can purchase this increasingly hard-to-find set for $54.99 at the Warner Bros. store right now. GO GO GO before it's gone!

I thought some of you would find this interesting:http://www.theonering.net/torwp/unexpectedpartychat/
Lots of info from PJ and GDT regarding The Hobbit, including yet another confirmation that Howard Shore is on the project:
Will Howard Shore be returning to do the score?
GDT: Yes- absolutely, Shore is the VOICE of these films and we will absolutely be invited back. Peter and Fran have talked to him a couple of times already and I've exchanged emails about the subject. He will return.

Seeing how LOTR sets the bar higher with every release, how about giving The Hobbit a two disc release in the first place? Don't tell me what's possible for Hulk is out of question for Bilbo!I realise this would mean we'd get a few different versions than the ones appearing in the film, since I suppose it'll be like LotR, with Howard Shore re-composing music way beyond the soundtrack deadline, but still, it's a wish.

I'm quite positive that I'm gonna go as well. I haven't seen nor heard the Symphony yet, so I'm pretty pumped about that. Moreover, I've got about a year to plan in advance. I'm sure there's ways to get to Finland...somehow
I just hope that I don't mess up with the ticket ordering system. As far as I've noticed it's all in Finnish :-/
