I just finished watching the first couple of seasons of Battlestar Galactica on dvd, and was really impressed with the music. I picked up the second season cd and I love it. The music is really beautiful. I was wondering if anyone else has heard the other season cds and if they are just as good and worth buying. Thanks.

If I had my choices again, I'd have waited for the third season album and bought that. It summarises the best parts of the previous season albums, and has the strongest cues of the three albums.

Maybe so, Michael, but if you're a fan, all three seasons are worth owning. Season's One and Two still have some incredible highlights; it wouldn't be wise to just buy Season Three thinking it was the best.I'm sure that Jeron and Sean would agree with me.

Personally I think they're all essential! The first CD has some fantastic pieces,
"The Shape of Things to Come" is my favorite Battlestar piece..Here it is set to a montage from the movie V for Vendetta: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOv-uPUTFDM
And the song "Wander my Friends" is a close second: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bx0NSHME4N0

Oh hell yeah, you need to pick up ALL the seasons and even the mini-series disc. Season One has some stellar pieces such as "The Olympic Carrier" (best action from the disc) and "Passacaglia" (pure bliss). Season Three is worth it alone for "Storming New Caprica". And the mini-series, while some dislike it, has some of my favorites including the "Main Title", "Launch Vipers" (which contains the core action music to all of BSG), and "The Storm and The Dead."Get these discs... and now. If you liked Season Two, you will like the rest.

Michael, to the best of my knowledge, you are not steeped in this show, and therefore your opinions on Bear McCreary's music to Battlestar Glactica are dubious. Sorry, but that's the way it has to be, no matter what (unless you park yourself down for the 3 seasons aired!).byron, if I were you and had the cash, I'd purchase all the music from the reboot of Battlestar Galactica, from the 2003 Mini-Series to the Season 3. You'll be impressed, no doubt about it.

I like them all, but I think the second season disc is the best album of the bunch. The third season disc really needs to be heard in context of the first two.

Sean, please confirm the "fact" that Bear is a complete idiot for separating his music from the visuals and offering it up for sale as a download, or even on a CD. You must subscribe to this belief, lest our ability to trust your consistency in logic is shot.I believe Byron's a casual listener, and what Franzie suggests isn't sacrilege as your playbook tells you. Most hardcore fans of BSG have already bought all the soundtracks and are likely listening to them, writing up cue-by-cue analysis in their sketchbooks while their TIVOs sit idle, ready for another shuffle through episode 4 season 3.... They're likely not going off on others in a forum, so where does that put you? Oops, Sean, not the most hardcore fan as you think? Get back to your TIVO thing for another re-run of that 5th note heard 10 seconds into the 8th scene of episode 7. Actually, it's at 24:48:09.
HA.

LOL! Very funny, Peter. You're right, I fumbled about the separation of visuals and music. But, what consistency in logic? I thought I was pretty inconsistent; or, at least I try to be.

Peter has defended my position adequately. I guess I assumed if someone was coming onto the forum and asking about the music, then they had already chosen not to go the whole hog. So I pointed them to what I thought was the best.I found myself a bit frustrated last week when I posted on this forum asking for Sibelius recommendations (for a beginner), only to get pointed to a boxset of the complete orchestral works! I wanted something a bit more basic than that...

I listened to the mini-series and season 3 cds. They were both good and had some great pieces, but I find that season 2 is still the best. Especially track 17, "Reuniting the Fleet". What a fantastic piece of music.

I find the 2nd season the disc the best listening experience from beginning to end. Season 3 is good, but has a few more misses than 2.

I guess it's safe to say that Season Two would win in the Main Event Poll that was coming up for BSG. Oh well, back to the drawing board!
