This just in at Varese:HERE WE GO!
Date: 2/12/2008
Even with 14 CDs already scheduled for release during our first quarter, we've managed to fill 7 more discs with CD Club goodness! A few hours after the last Oscar envelope is opened we'll unveil our first batch of limited editions for 2008 on February 25. And the winner is ... film music fans everwhere!

I wonder, 7 individual releases, or a couple of multiple CD sets. 7 individual releases seems outta line, so I'll bet on some multi-disc sets in the bunch. Can't wait...

I'm excited to see what surprises they may have up their sleeve. I've played their North by Northwest re-recording more often than any other score since Christmas. Although Navajo Joe is close behind. Plus the announcement gives a clear nod to an expanded 2-CD edition of Elmer Bernstein's score for Oscar... Ha. I kill me.

it seems early for varese club. Wasn't the last one in november? But ok. Here's hoping it's not some holy grail, cause I can't afford it if it is.

From the wording of the release, sounds like some unreleased Oscar nominated scores are coming our way.

I ate lunch with Bob Townson today; he spilled the beans. Now, if all of you donate $5 to my PayPal account I'll gladly share the information on a live webcast on February 26th at 9PM Eastern. Thanks in advance!

Ouch, I'd better get a raise in March.

not sure how you interpreted that---to me it seems like he was simply saying the announcement would be shortly after the end of the awards show.posted 02-12-2008 09:45 PM PT (US)

Franz with sunglasses =(a). Franz is perfectly serious;
(b). Franz is literally wearing sunglasses while posting;
(c). Franz understands the history of message board responses to Varese Club announcements, and knows very well that the language of Varese's PR has almost nothing to do with the content of the releases, but he thought he'd crack a joke anyway.posted 02-12-2008 09:50 PM PT (US)

My guess would be:
- 3 old scores (< 1970)
- 3 70's-80's scores
- 1 more recent scoreAll in all, I'll probably be interested in 2-3 releases.

I highly doubt there will be 7 new releases.

Oh, the woes of the intellectually proper, Michael!
(Something along those lines...trying to get German catchphrases into English is an art...)
