Hey Guys,
Has anyone else gotten the new The Marix the deluxe edition CD? I got it today and so far it sounds pretty great.

I got mine on Saturday, it's a solid release. All though far from complete but still a nice release.

Far from complete? It's only missing what, 20 or so minutes?Be happy with expanded releases

I don't think I'd describe any of the missing cues as 'major'. The most substantial exclusion is probably the second half of 'Trinity Infinity'.

What threw me about this release was that if you have the DVD, you have the isolated score...of course, Don Davis talks in-between, and it sometimes overlaps, but still... good stuff there.

I think it's more than 20 minutes. Remember too edited cues that appeared on the OST appear on this set. I've got the sessions (which has every single cue) and to me it's more listenable than the Deluxe Edition. I got it because I wanted it in my collection.

05. Neo On The Edge*
06. In Custody
07. Unable To Speak*
08. The Road To Truthville*
09. The Lafayette Mirror*
10. The Power Plant*
-I think this was edited on the D.E.11. Welcome To The Real World*

-Full cue as the one on the D.E. is edited.14. A Morpheus Moment*
15. Bow Whisk Orchestra*

18. Free Your Mind*
19. The Jump Program
20. Dinner

Well the Deleuxe Edition was a total suprise for me, and I'm greatful for the release as it is.
I have always felt that a soundtrack album should be special and not a complete/chronological ordered DVD-RIP. If you really need that just go watch the movie![Message edited by TimT on 10-07-2008]

I am absolutely LOVING this score all over again. I prefer this presentation to the complete score, even if it isn't entirely complete. My favorite new items so far are:
The entirety of "Switched for Life"... restrained but kinetic brilliance!
The entirety of "Bait and Switch"... AAAAAH! Fugal string writing in what........ 5 levels, followed by crazy brass- and wind-work! Wonderful track.
"That's Gotta Hurt," being the music from the subway fight is nice, but not really something I was specifically looking forward to.
I have particular fondness for Davis' "sentinel" music, and there's some new material somewhere that I remember, though I can't find it at the moment. Maybe it was "Surprise!" (another great track).
Thank you Varése!
Now if only we could get similar releases for the other two... even Concord's upcoming box set ("that one") would have nothin' on the awesomeness of that event.

Oh right, I thought he was talking about a Matrix box set, in relation to the topic of this thread.

Come on, Sean... you *had* to know I was waiting for your Indy-fan perspective on that comment.
Of course, that doesn't mean it wasn't true; I'm still doubtful if I'll buy the Indy set, but I couldn't get this one soon enough. $48 is a lot of money for an expanded release of music that I barely like in the first place.

Michael, I like The Matrix score, too, but to be honest I've only listened to the actual CD maybe 5 times since I bought it way back when; Don Davis can be either really good, or just plain mediocre... The Matrix is probably his best score. Regardless, the first 3 Indiana Jones scores are far superior to anything that Davis has ever composed.NP: The Shadow Jerry Goldsmith *****/*****

Williams generally writes such accomplished music that you could say that about 90+% of film composers nowadays. However, when we're talking about music of such quality as Williams' Jones scores or Davis' trilogy, I avoid even making comparisons and just say they're both great. Which of these practically polar opposite styles one prefers is entirely a matter of taste, I think.

Alright, I can agree with that, Michael. Overall, I'm happy with The Matrix scores, but am not at all taken by the inclusion of Juno Reactor. The third film has some beautiful parts to it, especially at the end, where Davis' music is given some light through all that darkness with the love theme.

I received my copy today from Colosseum records in Germany. It's the first time I ordered from them (quicker and cheaper shipping since it's within the EU), and they also threw in a complimentary copy of Mychael Danna's score to 'Where The Truth Lies' - in a promo cardboard slipcase but still the same CD.... great stuff. Is this standard practice or a first-time customer gift?
