Hey folks, the QoS soundtrack is now up at the UK iTunes store, a whole 10 days before it releases here on CD (or digitally) in the US. The clips ... sound bloody awesome.http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?id=293235455&s=143444

Hell yeah! I like how he brought back the Bond and Vesper theme, can't wait.God I hate that song LOL. It's almost as bad as nails on a chock board.
(iTunes still needs a preview all button)

I like the clips but I'm not really hearing anything to sink my teeth into: Also, iTunes doesn't have the best people choosing which parts to highlight from any given song or piece, so of course it could mean nothing that their selections are underwhelming. That said, the timpanis at the end "Have You Ever Killed Someone?" are cool and remind me of Jerry Goldsmith. Vesper's theme variants are nice, too, even drowning away at one part in "Camille's Story."

Are the clips in iTunes? I can't seem to find them there. This is pretty cool, though: http://commanderbond.net/article/5606 (hats off to Bond1965 for posting that at FSM)For Quantum of Solace to beat Casino Royale in my book, one cue is going to have to top Miami International. I think Arnold can pull that off.

Chris, great link! Thanks.I haven't read the FSM thread yet, but I imagine the footage of Arnold writing the score on his keyboards would drive a lot of the FSM staff up the wall: Pen and paper ONLY!!! HAHAHA!

Chris, just gave the score a quick listen and to be honest, there isn't that much action music on here: At least, there really isn't any sustained and impressive action like we received with "Miami International." That's a ton of action bursts. This is a solid score, but the short track lengths are a nuisance, IMO. The use of electronics in some of the action cues, "Pursuit At Port Au Prince" for example, are very much in RC/MV mode, unfortunately; also, I'll have to listen a bit more carefully, but I honestly didn't pick out any obvious main theme like we got with the "You Know My Name" song from Casino Royale. As a first listen, I enjoyed Casino Royale far more than Quantum Of Solace.Anyway, if the next Bond film after Quantum doesn't begin with Bond skiing and then end the film where he's in space, than I'm going to have to give up on this franchise.

Just added a playlist here of 14 or 15 of the tracks if you have problems with YouTube http://soundtrackgeek.com/2008/10/20/bond-is-back-quantum-of-solace-by-david-arnold/I kind of like it, and I'm not a big David Arnold fan...

Ok, so if it's out there in the UK, can we get track times and titles?

I still don't know what to make of this score. I only know that the numerous appearances of Vesper's theme annoy me.It would be okay if there was any notable new material, but there isn't. I have a new score in my hands, so I want new material, and not Casino Royal II.

I really like this score. To me it makes a more interesting album than CASINO ROYALE was when I first got it. Arnold/Dodd are trying out some new ideas orchestration-wise, and they're more than welcome. It's a pity not to have an 'Africa Rundown' in there, but there's a wealth of strong material in there. The return of Vesper's theme seems quite appropriate, since the memory of her is meant to be Bond's motivation throughout the film. How do we suggest a character's presence when they themselves are not there? This sounds like a job for a theme.
Apparently this is the whole score, minus a reprise of the Bond theme over the end credits.

I don't think using her theme in the film once or twice hurts the score, my point is just that it's used once or twice too often, when there could have been original music, namely in "I never left" for instance.

I really like the mood of it.
There are some slight echoes to Licence to Kill, especially in "Somebody Wants To Kill You". (Maybe because the film is partly about vengence as well and because of the locations.)
The Casino Royale themes are undertoned, just as if they represented deep feelings that don't dare to emerge.
I like "Night at the Opera" very much. They could have written a song using this theme. Following the same pace. It would have sound utterly original and have corresponded to the movie's story. And keep "Another Way to Die" for the very end of the end credits![Message edited by ThomasR on 10-22-2008]

It will probably be one of the stronger stylistic links to the previous film in the new one, and that invisible strings will be valuable for an audience, though they won't notice it.

I dislike this score the more I listen to it. No track is making me stop and take note, regardless of new orchestrations or whatever. Michael, "Africa Rundown" was the worst part of Casino Royale, IMO, in the film and on the score.

Each to his own, Sean. I'm just glad to be enjoying one of these scores - I don't often do.

For one, I have to agree.
After the stunning pre-credits, the African Rundown kind of catapulted the movie into the direction I didn't expect the movie to go, after all the "back to the roots" talk. For sure, Vesper's theme can have a certain momentum, but don't you think it ruins the special-ness of it when you hear it this often?
