any clips out there already? Does this score is entirely by Elfman or only the main theme?

Here a quote from a guy that saw film:quote:
The last thing I will touch upon, is the music. I usually enjoy soundtracks from all kinds of movies, and I did like the steel on steel sounds that has been with Terminator at least since Terminator 2. I wasn’t expecting great new music I could listen to at any time, but I usually am very fond of Danny Elfmans work, and thought it at times was too loud and big for the movie. Sometimes less is more, and for me, that would have been preferable this time around.
Hard to say what he means. The whole review can be read here: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/40999[Message edited by Kris on 05-12-2009]

Here's the first review I've seen, from the FSM message board:quote:
Getting my first few listens of Elfman's TERMINATOR SALVATION. It's no surprise that I love it, but I wonder if it's excessively aggressive action music will fly with those more apt to be listening to something from Cliff Eidelman's teen lesbian collection. It's one of those scores that the more you listen, the better it gets. I felt the same way about Michael Giacchino's STAR TREK. It really left me confused the first time through, but repeated listens helped bring out the theme and all the composer's ideas. The album is a nice balance between frenetic action and heroic (mostly for brass, strings and percussion), warm humanistic scoring, particularly nice is the solo guitar rendition of the main theme in "Fireside". That same theme is re-stated in the same track on a Celtic & Paraguayan Harp, which I thought might be something you'd hear in a HARRY POTTER score as some cut-rate, Russian-CGI-house-animated fantasy cliche passed through Diagon Alley.
Brad Fiedel's original, anvil-crashing TERMINATOR motif does not appear on the album, but Elfman's own main theme and percussion keep the score somewhat in that same musical universe.

I'm just listening to this.
First thoughts first: rather unimpressive - for Danny Elfman.I had high hopes for this, since it was an interesting choice for a Terminator movie.
The metallic sound is there, plus some nice sound and brass effects.
The theme is very forgettable, nothing that could replace the original theme in any sense.Aimless soft material.
Aimless action stuff. So far the least "summer" score.

Saw the film last night: It's my least favourite Terminator film, and Elfman's score will zip by you completely unnoticed. The film has no story, or at least no interesting story whatsoever (the rescue idea is weak, and bare-bones at best). Also, having the Resistance headquarters located in a submarine is idiotic and ineffective (poor Michael Ironside). ILM does some good work, but delivers nothing compared to their photo-realistic work on Star Trek; this might also be a problem with the overall look of the film, it's near black-and-white throughout (I can see why Christian Bale might wanna' flip out at the DP). This movie goes alongside Wolverine as one of the worst films I've seen this year, and even then, Wolverine was at least hilarious to sit through.

Also, I feel that Christian Bale should have crashed at least one more than the two helicopters he crashes in the film!AND Coke Zero tastes like s-h-i-t! The theatre ran out of CO2 and couldn't get their bag-in-the-box pop running properly and all that they had on sale was Coke Zero and Frutopia... BLAST!

Ahhh...the MM.com drama queens strike again. The score was serviceable and some portions of it were actually quite good (need to listen to it apart from the film to give solid feedback. Coaster...not quite. One of the worst films of the year? Hardly.
Not great, but again and entertaining enough two-hours and $10 diversion. My only complaint about the film is that is seems to start exploring some interesting thematic ideas (Connor not obvious leader out of the gate was struggling with his own prophetic ideas and a a resistance desperate to follow him, and the ideas behind and driving the Marcus Wright chacters.) Some shots are cut away too quickly, as if there was more to say but given up for the sake of frenetic pacing. Should have been rated R.
There were a couple moments (when the character is first introduced) that Anton Yelchin felt like a young Michael Biehn. I think their realization of that character was interesting and plausible when viewed across the entire cannon.
Oh, and I do lay any blame on McG's shoulders - I enjoyed the look of the film and several of the action pieces were very impressively done. You can jest about the helicopter crashes but the extended shot / interior POV crash from the first scene was actually quite impressive.
I give the film and score a passing grade, and hope that international receipts are enough to propel the 2nd and 3rd films.

You know, Elfman might still actually give you a complete Midnight Run even if you call him out on this stupid Terminator: Solution score.
