Well, I finally saw the Oscars - in a hour and 40 minutes summary - and the result is that I'm only more disenchanted by these summaries... Makes me angry to see everything of "No Man's Land" winning the Oscar and everything of Sidney, Denzel, Halle, a couple of screenwriters, and the special effects number (- which was impressive, I admit -) BUT NOTHING about the best score award, and even Randy Newman's historical speech was edited just to include a humble "thank you". - I just looove to live on this God-forsaken side of the Atlantic Ocean where Oscar galas are chopped to bits...I know I may get to be again stoned for saying this, but I honestly think Halle Berry was an extremely poor actor for her "Gwyneth Paltrowian" crying... I just can't help thinking how artificial it is when a woman is "crying" - vailing her heart out - but there are not a single trace of TEARS anywhere...
...But then again, maybe I just have been hanging with my sister too often, who is probably the only woman on earth who can cry and laugh and be shocked and exhilarated and touched in the same time, and yet show it all in such a sincere, fun way - with joyous tears enough for the whole world - that the likes of Halle Berry and Gwyneth Paltrow would just gasp in amazement and admiration...Then, there was Jennifer Connelly. I guess I have to say the magic is over - Geez, I thought she would be an actress who would not need a written speech... And she was so cold. No emotion, no exhilaration... No elegance. Nothing. - - A real pity.
John Williams' name was mentioned at the start of the show and he was even shown - but it was merely the only thing about "film music" on the summary.
Next year I will get my own satellite to watch the gala live - or then I will travel to LA and ring Jeron's doorbell asking for watching Oscars there
KEN, who is actually not smiling - but what the hell; life goes on

How come you only get the abridged version where you are?

Ken, you thought that Halle Berry's performance as the cry-babe at the Oscars was weak? I thought it deserved an Oscar! (Seriously though, I think she was being genuine.)

Ken,
Where exactly are you from?, the U.K?
If so, the ceremony was screened live on BBC2!I also watched the edited version the following day and what a real hack job they made of that.
It really pisses me off when anything relating to film music is always edited out every year with the highlighted version.Dean.

Are we sure Halle Berry still has tear ducts?

André,
that's certainly not our national anthem
- unfortunately we don't have any lofty mountains here, but the trees are tall and the forests are great...
I maybe just a Finnish idiot, but what is this original song - or is this totally your own composition (lyrics, too ), André ?Now it happened, that the Finnish singer Marita Taavitsainen's song about "ANDRÉ" started playing in my mind... ... It's a quite popular "love" song which repeats the name "André"...but I don't remember the other lyrics.
It's a small world, André.
(...And I don't mean the Disney attraction).KEN

Ken, Halle was very genuinely moved by her win. She had tears coming down her face for about a minute before she composed herself. They even showed some people near tears in the audience.Speaking of Gwyneth, I'm assuming you missed the atrocity that was Ms. Paltrow this year. Looking like she wanted to be her Royal Tenenbaums character all dressed up, she just shocked the hell out of me, and not in a good way.

Ken, Andre's marvelous song was first done by Monty Python. It's one of my faves, right up there with "I Like Traffic Lights" and "Eric The Half-A-Bee".
